F-3 Championship: “The Kill” defends his belt, Naseri wins Muay Thai belt
F-3 Championship: “The Kill” defends his belt, Naseri wins Muay Thai belt
The Coffee Boys View
Despite how critical The Editor is of
F-3 – what with the lack of marketing, shoddy match-making and in the past
having cruddy venues – F-3 Championship put on some quality fights and fight
fans got to witness some exciting Muay Thai fights, technical boxing bouts, and
witness the world’s tallest featherweight put a K-1 vet to sleep.
It was a shame that there weren’t more
people at the show – Badminton Stadium Cheras is a great venue for an event
like this being that it has a ton of space, it’s air-conditioned, and it’s
situated in a part of KL that’s accessible. Hopefully the people behind F-3
start advertising their events way ahead of time.
Will “The Kill” Chope, now 14 – 5,
extends his win-streak to nine in a row after putting Alex Lim to sleep in under
two minutes in the main event of the first day. As per usual, Chope came out
with a significant height and reach advantage and he wasted no time in engaging
in the clinch. After scrambling to the ground, Chope secured Lim’s back,
slapped on the rear-naked choke and it took only a matter of seconds before Lim
was out cold.
Chope, who is a featherweight contended
(and recently announced the number 1 contender in the URCC after his domination
of Rex de Lara), will likely want to fight for F-3’s featherweight belt in MMA
if offered the chance, seeing as he is ironically massively undersized for the
welterweight belt. That being said, he has now put away two men in that
division, so we’ll wait and see what Chope and F-3 have in store for us.
One the second day’s main event, we saw
Amir Naseri face Q Ekkasit in what was an exciting back and forth Muay Thai
fight for the 63 kg belt. Early on in the fight, Ekkasit had Naseri tied up
against the ropes and Naseri actually flipped over. Thankfully, he wasn’t injured
and got back in the ring and the fight resumed. This would go on to happen
several times for both fighters – that’s how hard these men fought.
After several rounds of hardcore Muay
Thai, Naseri secured the judges’ decision and walked away the new F-3 Muay Thai
Champion, with relatively little dispute of the decision.
Also at the event, Nik “The Bloodhound”
Harris – who lost his previous fight to Brad “Vanilla Gorilla” Robinson at
Ultimate Beatdown X – got back in the win column by defeating Wing Chun
specialist MK Chan in the first round by submission (guillotine choke), after
MK spent a good deal of time trying to grapple Harris to the ground.
There was also a couple boxing bouts,
one that was met with much controversy. James Goyder, combat sports journalist
for websites such as MMAMania and Combat Asia – who recently lost in his boxing
debut to Juggernaut Fight Club’s “The Slasher” – fought Wan Ridzuan in a rather
one-sided affair. Goyder, possessing significant height and reach advantage, was
more the aggressor and landed some decent combinations. Ridzuan did, however,
land some significant shots in, but it certainly did not look like enough to
have beaten Goyder.
As the commentator was about to read
out the judges decision, the referee had been expecting Goyder to get the nod
and already lifted his hand up. However, Ridzuan was announced the winner via
split-decision. Afterwards upon inspection of the official scorecards, it was
revealed that there had been a miscalculation (take that with a grain of salt),
and that it was actually a draw. F-3 have officially ruled the bout a draw
between Goyder and Ridzuan.
It was a fun weekend of fights, and we
here at Rear Naked News (well The Coffee Boy) hope they really stick around for a long time (but only
if they start marketing themselves better, and fix some things here and there
such as match-making and in-venue stuff like having a concession stand).

F3 Championship
F3 Combat Championship
This weekend in Kuala Lumpur is an event that I have been very critical of. Not because of the fights but because of the way it is promoted, the way it is run. That being said it is something a bit different in the Malaysian MMA scene as it is a hybrid event, often mixing Muay Thai, Boxing and MMA bouts.
The biggest problem I have with the event is it is really aimed at Malays, the last of these events I attended in Johor Bahru all announcements were made in BM, which would be fine if somebody was also doing an English or even Chinese announcement as many of the fighters were foreigners who did not even realise they were being called.
Also the organisation around the event was terrible with posters being delivered a week before the event and not being displayed anywhere meaningful. Putting up loads of posters inside the venue the event is being held at is just pointless.
To then not have any refreshments on sale at the event even though the sports hall is not air conditioned really was a poor showing and frankly the turn out reflected that. There was no sign that this was an event for everybody.
You can read my reviews of that event Here and Here.
However, it's a new event back in Kuala Lumpur and so our hopes are renewed that this event has improved.
Lets look at the card, well at least that which we have, for although we are only a few days away from the event there are still gaps which makes talking about them very difficult.
Day 1" 1st Decemeber
Bout 1: - MMA
Isaac Yap (Ultimate MMA Academy) vs Mohd Faizal Bin Fozi (Malacca MMA)
Yap does not fight much, he works in Singapore and finds getting time to train difficult but he is an accomplished martial artist and it will be interesting to see how he does against Faizal (1-6) - Faizal while not having a great record is always a willing participent in these events. It should not be forgotten their is no MMA gym in Malacca, so these guys are at a tremendous disadvantage.
Bout 2: - Womens Muay Thai
Ella Tang (TNT Kickboxing) vs Rodiah Bt Nordin (Cobra)
Bout 3: - MMA
Khairul Izhar (0-1) vs Kenny Yap (Wuji)
Izhar (Azhar?) (0-1) made his debut in the Malaysian Fighting Championship bout in October, sadly it lasted just 38 seconds. Yap (2-1) is fast improving after a difficult first fight back in September 2011 against top Malaysian prospect Halsten Ng he has recorded two second round wins. He must be favorite in this bout.
Bout 4: - Boxing
Hashim B Abdullah vs ?
Bout 5: Co Main Event - Muay Thai
Mohammad Sotounzadeh (Global Elite Gym) vs Yodphed (Impakt Gym)
Bout 6: - Main Event MMA Championship Title Match
Alex Lim (TNT Kickboxing) vs Will Chope (Phuket Top Team/Team Buffet)
Chope is defending champion and is one of the busiest fighters in Asia, he fights MMA, K1 and Muay Thai events anything to keep him busy. He also has a great height and reach advantage.
Sadly I cannot tell you anything about Lim except I don't have any details on him and he is not listed on Sherdog, I don't even know how he got in a position to fight for the title. I understand though that he is a talented fighter with much K1 experience.
Day 2: 2nd December
Bout 1: - Boxing
James Goyder (MMA Mania) vs Wan Ridzuan B Wan Aziz
Bout 2: - Womens Mauy Thai
Germaine (Kambiz Warrior) vs Sudatip Wiloedram (SS Fighters Muay Thai Gym)
Bout 3: - MMA
Mohd Fouzien Mohd Fozi (Malacca MMA) vs ? TBA
Fouzien is the brother of Faizal and has a decent (3-3) record, he last loss was at the F3 event in Kuala Lumpur where he broke his leg, he took his time repairing and since then has two wins to his name.
Bout 4: - MMA
Chan Man Kong (Street Fight Wing Chun) vs Nik Harris (Muayfit)
Kong (1-3) just secured his first win at the Legionnaire event in October but really Harris (2-2) better win this if he wants to consider he has any future in MMA.
Bout 5: Co-Main Event - Muay Thai
Singapura (30THN) vs Damnern Pesantha (Impakt Singapore)
Bout 6: Main Event - Muay Thai Championship Title Fight
Amer Naseri (Kambiz Warrior) vs Chim Wiloetram (SS Fighters Muay Thai Gym)
And there you go.
Apparently the undercard fights start at 9:00am and the main event starts at 2:30pm. Which frankly seems a crazy time to run an event, but hey it's not my country.

Ultimate Beatdown X: Robinson outpoints Harris, Cole submits “Mok”
Ultimate Beatdown X: Robinson outpoints Harris, Cole submits “Mok”
(by the Coffee Boy)
Malaysian
MMA is still on the rise, and Ultimate Beatdown X gave fans a fun night of Muay
Thai and professional MMA fights. The place wasn’t as packed as it could have
been, but towards the end of the night it started getting crowded.
In the
main event, Nik Harris fought Brad Robinson in what turned out to be a very
technical sort of bout. Robinson managed to keep the fight on the ground,
taking Harris down as often as he could. Harris seemed in trouble one or two
times, but managed to defend against submission attempts pretty well.
In the
third round, we saw Nik let his hands go a little bit more, and managed to land
some good punches and a couple kicks. Robinson wouldn’t have any of that,
clearly getting out-struck, and took it to the ground where he felt most
comfortable. He controlled all of the last round, and despite it being a little
less exciting, it’s understandable since they had a tough first two rounds
against each other.
Brad
Robinson is definitely someone to watch out for, and with a team like Fight G behind
him and getting to train with legends
like Ole Laursen and Phil Baroni, the sky’s the limit for the “Vanilla
Gorilla”. Nik Harris took the loss well, and was a class act post-fight. He was
seen talking to Robinson, and they seemed to be cool around each other. Rumor is
that Nik Harris has another fight coming up again soon.
In the
co-main event, Sabastion Cole took on “Mok”, a Judo fighter. Cole came out and
threw some kicks and landed some solid, fast-paced punches, and managed to get
his opponent’s back, and slapped on a standing rear naked choke.
Cole was
one of the more impressive fighters of the night, demonstrating a versatile
skill-set in the 38 seconds the fight lasted. He improved his record to 2-1,
and we’re looking forward to watching this young man fight again soon.
Ultimate
Beatdown X demonstrated that Malaysians are starting to get a better feel of
MMA, both the fans and the fighters alike. The fighters have shown significant
improvement, and the fans were eating up every bit of every single fight.
Ultimate Beatdown is already looking forward to their next event, and we’ll
post up details soon once more is confirmed.

Ultimate Beatdown 10 - Tonights The Night
Ultimate Beatdown 10 ~ War in Johor
Saturday 15th September (Yes Tonight!)
This may well be the tenth event organised by the Ultimate MMA Academy (Initially known as Ultimate Fight Night), but, this is only the second held at De'Bali Bar and Bisto and the first one was a great success and this promises even more. (you can find video highlights of that event here)
Now the simple fact is of course these events are always more fun if you are there in person but obviously not everybody can make it to Johor Bahru, so my suggestion is watch it live on Ustream HERE starting at 7:30pm.
The card is packed with good fight, but, of course like all these events we have had some last minute changes.
Still the fights promise a lot of fun with the main event being Brad "The Vanilla Gorilla" Robinson the raider crossing the causeway from Singapore and hoping to take home the win over Malaysian Nik "The Bloodhound" Harris. Both fighters are real nice guys out of the cage but once they shut the door all hell is going to be let loose.
You can listen to both these guys on the MMANewsAsia podcast:
Heres Nik's Show
and here is Brads
Crowd estimates are looking very good with the VIP section sold out long ago.
They look set to destroy the last events 400 plus crowd. It would appear that all MMA in Johor needed was a decent venue and now it can go from strength to strength.
The event is organised by the Ultimate MMA Academy at Mount Austen.
We will of course be bringing you lots of reports from the event so don't forget to book mark this site and tell your friends

Nik “The Bloodhound” Harris Putting Malaysia On the Map
Nik “The Bloodhound” Harris Putting Malaysia On the Map
Published on April 23, 2012 by The Coffee Boy in Gods FC, Malaysia FC, NEWS, Opinion
Nik ‘The Bloodhound’ Harris: “I intend to put Malaysia on the map
Gary Maclay picked Nik Harris up and slammed him into the canvas for the third time that night at Gods Fighting Championship, and it seemed as if Maclay had this one in the bag.
“Truth be told, I was hurt by the slams,” Nik would later reflect to me. “The first slam knocked the wind outta’ me and the fact that my opponent drove his shoulder into my rib accentuated the pain.”
After reversing his position and landing on top, Nik Harris unleashed some ground and pound, got the fight standing, and unloaded on Maclay a barrage of unanswered knees and punches. Nik took the win by way of TKO.
“I’m not entirely sure how many of my shots were landing”, Nik says, “but I wasn’t going to stop until the referee jumped in.” And that’s exactly what happened.
Nik Harris bin Nik Ahmad Huzlan, or more commonly known as just Nik Harris, fights out of Muayfit after having been exposed to the sport of MMA just a few years ago. He got his first taste of live MMA action at Muayfit’s Mayhem 2, supporting his friend.
“Though I went there to support my friend, I also wanted to scope out the talent,” Nik explained. “I realized that it was growing fast and that this was my opportunity to take a chance at mixed martial arts.”
Soon after, he got absorbed into Muayfit after spending a little bit of time at Alex’s Gym doing boxing. One thing lead to another, and he ended up working for them as a sales consultant to pay his bills and fund his passion.
Anyone who knows Nik Harris would be pleasantly surprised to find out that he wants to pursue this growing but very new combat sport in this country. The son of a man recently retired from working in the aviation industry and woman who is an airline stewardess, one would expect him to follow in his families footsteps.
“I was supposed to be stuck in a boring 9-5 job punching paper instead of punching faces” Nik joked. But martial arts is what he does best, and this is not entirely new to him.
“I was a pretty hyper kid growing up, and I decided to channel my energy into Tae Kwon Do when I was about 9 years old” Nik explained. “After awhile I quit because I just wouldn’t focus. But I still loved martial arts, and years later I got into boxing at Alex’s Gym.
“Growing up I was always a big fan of professional wrestling. My idol was The Rock, I had a cardboard cutout of the champion. The way he would walk down that aisle with his music and that belt over his shoulders… I always knew I wanted to be a champion like him one day.”
Soon enough, back in the real world of MMA, he got his first fight against Mahariff Mahali at Malaysian Fighting Championship 2. He won in the second round by way of TKO.
A lot of buzz started surrounding Nik Harris in the local MMA scene, and many were already saying he was the best light heavyweight around. Unfortunately for him, Antonio Graceffo’s name started popping up, and soon both fighters were scheduled to fight each other.
“He called me out to a fight for bragging rights and pride,” Nik says. “I accepted the fight knowing his abilities and accomplishments and all that. I lost that fight, but I knew what had to be done.”
He started training more regularly, changed his regime, and made it a short-term goal to avenge his loss against Graceffo one day, saying “…there will definitely be a Graceffo vs Harris II.” What came next though was Gods Fighting Championship.
He was matched up against Penang Top Team’s Gary Maclay. In what would turn out to be a very tough match for him, it turned out that Nik didn’t know anything about his opponent.
“There was very little information about my opponent, so I didn’t know what to expect,” Nik explained. “I literally went into the fight not knowing what my opponent was going to bring to the table.”
They met in the middle of the cage and Nik Harris, normally a funny, charming young man, went into beast mode and had the most intense stare-down of the night against Gary. What came next was the two fighters going right at it and before Nik knew what had happened, he was slammed to the canvas.
After being slammed and taken down several times, Nik managed to turn the tables on Gary, and worked a little ground and pound in his guard. Soon they were standing in front of each other, and Nik was chasing him down, throwing hooks and knees to the body and head. It wasn’t long before the referee jumped in, and Nik Harris took the win.
“I knew he was hurt from the head kick I landed,” Nik says, “And I smelled blood, and went in for the kill. I wasn’t going to stop until the referee jumped in.”
The fight won him Fight of the Night honors at Gods FC, and many walked away thoroughly impressed with his aggressive style and bravado. While he is still green and has room for improvement, it seems though that Nik Harris has a pretty bright future ahead of him in MMA.
“In the long run, I want to conquer Asian MMA, and one day make a move to the Ultimate Fighting Championship,” Nik beamed. “I want to fight the very best out there… to show the world what the Malaysian fighting spirit is all about.”
During my interview with him, I could tell that he was ambitious, driven, motivated, all that. But he also had a higher purpose, one that came above his own desire for glory.
“I intend to put Malaysia on the map, by showing the world that we are tough as nails.”
Training hard with Muayfit, he has a bunch of solid fighters behind him helping him achieve that goal. “We train as a team, and they welcome me like family. I am very grateful for them.” The Muayfit team includes Arnaud Lepont, Mark Striegl, Will Chope, Jian Kai Chee, Raymond Tiew, and Sam Chan.
When asked about any fights he had coming up, all he had to say was “…most probably in June for the next MFC, and hopefully Gods FC again.” He doesn’t have any inclination towards any particular promotion; he just wants to fight.
Nik Harris is that one guy people will either love or love to hate. He’s got so much passion and so much drive to be a “bloodhound”. He wants to fight for his country, for his team, and for glory.
Call him crazy, cheesy, over-the-top, whatever you want – Nik Harris is the real deal.
