DARE - The Most Dangerous Gameshow Ep 5

DARE ~ The Most Dangerous Gameshow

Another enjoyable show from DARE. As usual we get some of The Entertainer and his delightful lady (boy?) friends and the amazing Xanny one of Asia's most beautiful women.

DARE can produce entertainment however the fight game extends beyond the pre fight entertainment.

In this bout: Korea vs The Predator - The Predator was misnamed. Korea dominated from the bell and was never in any trouble.

As we learn from the commentary team Jon and Dickie - "The Predator really not living up to his name sake"

"The actual Predator was of course an Alien from another planet and not a Malaysian guy that's now on the bottom".

So come for the pre fight entertainment and stay for some of the funniest commentary around.

Getting To Know The Fighters of UB9 ~ Roger Chan

Getting To Know The Fighters of UB9 ~ Roger Chan

The Fighters of UB9  ~ Ultimate BeatdownRoger Chan

Roger Chan (1-0) Singapore has been training since his teens, and like his opponent at UB9 Hanif Zainal  he started with Tae Kwon Do during his school days. About 5 or 6 years ago he started learning Kapap Israeli Martial Arts and Gracie Jiu Jit Su for self-defense. It was only a few months back that he really got into MMA.

He trains with the best  at the Gracie University! Its online, You cant miss it!

And because he has a smart marketing head on his shoulders  he also name checks Kapap Academy Singapore (First and only Certified Gracie Training Center in Singapore) and Ultimate MMA Academy in Johor Bahru (First and only Gracie Garage in Malaysia)

Roger describes his strength as his  ”Willingness to always keep learning . Always a student, sometimes a teacher.”

When asked what he knew about Hanif Zainal he replied “ a fast rising MMA fighter in Malaysia and that he has fought professionally in Legend FC, Macau. He is a tough cookie and seems like a really nice chap. It’s an honor to be matched against him.”  Roger is very aware of the task ahead of him.

He has only had the one fight so far (see below) and Hanif will be a big step up in class for him.

In the real world away from the cage he is a stock trader and also a partner in Kapap Academy Singapore where they work with the public, companies, schools and elderly centers to teach their members self defense.

Roger had this to say to Hainf:
“I look forward to an awesome bout Hanif . It’s gonna be a great night and maybe we can grab a drink together after the fight  ”

He wishes to thank His wife Kimberly and 1 year old baby girl Reya, they have been immensely supportive but understandably fearful at times about this.  He also wishes to thank my training partners and coaches for the patience in teaching me, Im but an old dog learning new tricks!

Getting To Know The Fighters of UB 9 ~ Hanif Zainal

Getting To Know The Fighters of UB 9 ~ Hanif Zainal

The Fighters of UB 9 – Ultimate Beatdown

Hanif Zainal

Hanif “The Predator” Zainal (2-1-1) Malaysia – has been training MMA  for around six months and has already made quite a splash. He started off as a youngster training in Tae Kwon Doh. His first exposure to MMA was actually through a computer game (at this time MMA was not shown on Malaysian TV). He and some friends then started trying out moves from the game and also those found on youtube.

He started his MMA training with a personal trainer at Kelana Jaya before moving to Muayfit where he trained once a week and now he is training with the Titans Fight team.

I witnessed  Hanif’s debut back in May of this year at the Malaysian Fighting Championships fourth event. His opponent on that day was Keith “The Terminator” Alden also making his debut. They both fought the full three rounds and the fight was a very exciting unanimous draw. (you can watch it below).

Hanif happily admits that he prefers to stand and bang and will not be looking to take the fight to the ground, in fact he said he hates going to the ground. He of course is aware that his opponent Roger Chan is a good grappler so this should be an exciting stylistic match-up and Hanif certainly does not under estimate the task ahead of him.

His last fight was an ill fated bout at Legend FC in Macau, but that big step up did not deter him, he treated it as a learning experience.

He tell’s us that  MMA is a hobby because he is an engineering student and for now that’s my career.
He does have a message for his opponent (Roger Chan) and that  is that “I respect him and his skills, but he’ll have to go down cuz i’m hungry for win after my loss.”

Ultimate Beatdown 9 will be held at 8:30pm on Saturday July 7th 2012 at De’Bali Bistro, Johor Bahru

Hanif Zainal Malaysias Newest Pro MMA Fighter

Hanif Zainal Malaysias Newest Pro MMA Fighter

Published on May 31, 2012 by The Sandman in Legend, NEWS
(What?! Another story from The Sandman? I’m like a mother fucking London bus, I tell you.)

Hanif Zainal ~ Legends Newest Signing and One of Malaysia’s Own

After Hanif Zainal’s first fight, people were eager to find out where this talented youngster trained. They asked him of course; and his answer was straightforward, “at a field near my house”.

You see Hanif isn’t just any MMA fighter. This is a Malaysian kid who grew up practicing Tae Kwon Do and started training MMA with his friends by mimicking Youtube videos. “ I would memorize a move then call my friends, teach them and roll with them,” he said.

Literally from the backyard to the big leagues, Hanif is now signed to Legend FC after only three professional fights (2-0-1). “I’m partly scared to be honest because of the bigger pressure there is. But I’m also happy and excited to finally get a chance to be on the big stage,” said Hanif.

He’ll make his Legend debut against Philippines’ Diego Cuenca at The Grand Hyatt Macau on 16th June at Legend FC 9. Despite only three fights under his belt, Hanif will be the more experienced fighter in the ring as his opponent will be making his professional debut. Hanif’s not taking anything for granted though.

“Although he has no professional record, he has been on tour with BJ Penn and he might be a really good fighter.

“I know he’s got a very good ground game; he received his purple belt in BJJ last year and I bet he’s improved even more by now.

“I’d definitely try to keep the fight standing. One thing I know for sure is not to mess with a BJJ practitioner on the ground.” he said.

Hanif has been working hard at Muayfit and also with the Wangsa Maju Warriors to prepare himself for this fight.

“My training is going on well with the help of the fighters at Muayfit and my other gym. My training has only changed with a few additional trainings with my boxing coach Piotr (Leib),” he added.

Originally a lightweight, Hanif is making the switch to featherweight which he believes is a weight class more suitable for him at this early stage in his career.

“It is something new for me (having to cut weight) but I have to get comfortable with it since I would have faced bigger opponents if I stayed in lightweight. That is what i don’t want early in my career.”

Hanif has a few idols in featherweight division such as Mark Striegl, The Korean Zombie Jung Chan-Sung and Jose Aldo. In MMA as a whole however, he looks up to Carlos Condit. He remarked, “Condit and GSP will be like a chess match. He’ll come up with some way to beat GSP; he always does.”

What is in the future for Hanif? UFC, maybe?

“I’m looking to dominate Asian MMA for now. Make my name well-known and keep on improving, move to a bigger league and make Asia proud.”

—-
Since The Editor and The Coffee Boy have been on my back to cover something other than SFL I’ve decided to add a little bit of UFC predictions section at the end of fighter interviews. So I asked Hanif…

Rich Franklin vs Wanderlei Silva at UFC 147
“I’m not too sure about Rich Franklin but I know Silva is gonna come up aggressive as he always does. So I guess it will be Silva winning it by knockout in the first round.”

GODS FC – Not A Bad Start From Asia’s Newest MMA Organisation

GODS FC Held Their First MMA Event on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur

Well it’s Sunday afternoon and 2/3rds of the MMA News Asia team have returned to sunny glorious Johor Bahru just in time to miss the Formula One (why cant a coach travel from KL to JB without needing to stop twice so people can fill their fat faces, just get me home!)

Anyway, GODS FC, what a fun night that was 11 fights, all of which finished in the first round and with one exception all packed full of pure unadulterated violence and much skill, especially considering many of these fighters were making their debuts.

Later this week we should be putting out one, maybe two podcasts featuring audio from the event but for now here’s a quick overview.

About 30 minutes before the event started the place was looking sadly empty and I feared the worst. I need not have worried the MMA fans from Malaysia and Singapore were just fashionably late, as indeed was the start of the event.

Yes, taking a leaf out the how to run an MMA event as written by the likes of ONE FC and DARE.   Rule 1 is start late!

Well, when it started the place has buzzing with a healthy crowd, we could relax now.

There were eleven bouts and none of them made it out of round 1, but you know what it did not matter the fights were exciting, the fighters brought it and the crowd appreciated it.

Here are the results:

1) Syed Izmer beat Julius King via KO

2) Shodoyor Djurabekov beat Leaon low via TKO

3) Luc Rousseau beat Muhd Hazrul via Guillotine

4) Antonio Graceffo beat David Khoo via Submission – Rear Naked Choke

5) Nik Harris beat Gary Maclay via TKO – Knees (Fight of the Night)

6) Sandro Silva beat Dan Augoste via Guillotine

7) Allamurad Karayev beat Umutbek Malikov via Tap to Strike

8.) Donald Tong beat Andy Teh via Submission – Armbar

9) Sam Chan beat Siyed Hilman via Submission – Rear Naked Choke

10) Hanif Zainal beat Zaden Gom via Tap Out – Strikes

11) Melvin Yeo beat Mamat Sparko via TKO – Mounted Triangle

All in all a good first event and judging by the crowd and the fighters most people enjoyed themselves.

Malaysian Fighting Championship – MFC 4-  Fight 8 Blow by Blow

So far every fight has finished before the first round had ended, would this be any different?

Fight 8: Hanif “The Predator” Zainal (Speed Power Taekwondo) Vs Keith “The Terminator” Alden Round 1:

The fight starts, they touch gloves, Zainal throws a low leg kick which Alden blocks, he does not block the next one. Alden goes in low for a takedown he does not succeed, but he does have Hanif pressed against the cage and is placing some body shots and Hanif tries to escape but Alden holds him tight. He is trying to pull Hanifs legs away. Hanif replies with some solid shots to the body. Alden pushes him tighter against the cage in reply. The ref moves them apart.
Alden tries to go low again, Hanif tries to block him, he’s using his arms, well, he get’s underhooks, Hanif is doing a great job of defending. Alden knees Hanifs leg, Hanif replies with a knee to the body. Alden head down and still pushing Hanif against the cage punches to the thigh of Hanif. But, Hanif has the underhooks and is doing a very good job of neutralising any real damage.Alden still pushing for a takedown, again punches the thigh, trying to pull Hanif’s legs away. Again the ref steps in and separates the fighters.
Hanif restarts with a strong kick to the body and then a jumping head kick which just misses and he eats a low kick by Alden. Alden throws a leg kick. Hanif throws a single to double jumping leg kick (whatever one of those is) but in doing so he trips and Alden is all over him and in his guard, trying to work through and push his legs out, it looks like Hanif is going for a leg, yes, he’s trying for a heel hook, Alden pulls out and leaves Hanif on the ground. Alden stands over him, Hanif has his his leg, he tries an up kick and lets go of Aldens leg. Alden pounces and stacks Hanif against the cage pushing his legs back over his head, a good position, Hanif rolls out but Alden has him straight back in the same position, Alden then moves into side control.
Hanif is trying to get him into guard but Alden is turning to keep the advantage and they are in a north south position, Alden moves back into side control, Hanif is trying to use the cage to roll himself over. Alden holds him tight and pushes him down and tries to pull him away from the cage, while, Hanif is still using the cage to try to get him self over. Alden throws some punches, they are still grappling, Alden fighting to keep control. He is still in side control and starts to lay some knees into the body, Hanif tries to use his elbow to defend but a barrage of knees are coming in.
Alden tries to move into full mount, and he succeeds, he tries to take Hanifs back but immediately Hanif rolls out and lands an up kick and as Hanif stood up he landed a big punch to the jaw. Hanif is on his feet and Alden is wobbled. Alden regains his composure and it’s the end of the first round.
A very exciting first round, full of backwards and forwards action.

This one is going to Round 2
Round 2:
Starts with a body kick from Alden, doesn’t land cleanly but his counter leg kick does, as does his next kick, Hanif is backing up against the cage. They both kick out and their shins colide, they move back to the middle. Alden looks like he want’s to win it this round. Alden throws a sidekick, Hanif  tries to use some kicks to keep Alden at bay, he throws a jab and misses then a leg kick which lands, Alden tried to block it, but was too slow. A head kick from Hanif and then a leg kick, they are very effective. Hanif tries a head kick and then a leg kick, the kicks are effectively keeping Alden at bay. Alden replys with a very solid leg kick, then he throws a high kick which just misses.
Hanif lunges forward punching to the body but misses, another good low kick by Alden, Alden throws a big hook which partially lands, Hanif again goes for the body shot, then he goes back to the kicks keeping Alden at bay. Hanif throws an upper cut that misses and immediately Alden replies with a powerful leg kick which lands. They share kicks mostly blocked, The ref tells them to engage more and Hanif does so with an uppercut and a left hand, both are blocked but Hanif is really going for Alden and is starting to land some hard shots, Alden clinches up and lands a few close shots of his own. Hanif lands a very powerful knee and they separate again.
Both fighters are showing good stamina, Alden looks like his leg might be hurting a bit after all those kicks.
Hanif lands a really hard punch, it’s party blocked but it threw Aldens hands back, Hanif continues to throw solid punches, Alden is blocking most of them but they are coming with mean intent. Alden goes for another takedown but Hanif uses the underhooks to defend very well. He is pushing his knee between them, Alden is punching into the body and trying to take a leg. Hanif is showing good clinch takedown defense.
Alden is pushing his body in close so he cannot be kneed with power, Alden still throws a knee and then Hanif tries to throw Alden but cannot, Alden throws a knee, Hanif repays him and they exchange some solid knees. Both fighters are giving everything They continue to struggle right to the bell.
A very exciting and even second round, what wil Round 3 bring?
Round 3:
Alden starts with a leg kick, it’s possibly lost some of it’s zing, not as fast or as accurate as his earlier kicks is he tiring? Hanif also looks tired, this is going to be a round to dig deep. Hanif comes forward throwing punches and get’s a muay thai clinch and continues to hit Alden who seems unable to protect himself. Suddenly he shoots forward for a takedown, pinning Hanif against the cage, Hanif though has him in an attempted guillotine, Alden struggles to free himself and eats some good knees on the way out, he plunges back in and Hanif has him again around the neck. Alden retaliates with some good body punches, he does seem to be slowing though the punches are coming less. Hanif still holds him and does not look too troubled by the body punches he is receiving. Hanif is blocking Aldens legs to stop his knees and at the same time he is landing knees of his own. Alden tries to create some room to enable him to throw a knee but before he can he eats one from Hanif. Alden seems to be struggling to complete his takedowns with Hanif’s solid defence, but is his domination of the cage going to see him through to a win?
Hanif throws and misses with a superman punch and he takes a knee for his trouble, Hanif catches Alden with a right hand and Alden again backs him into the cage and knees to Hanifs leg, Hanif again tries the choke but he won’t get it in without adjusting his position. Alden is reaching for a leg, he cannot get it, so he lands a nice knee instead. Too block these knees Hanif has his leg up almost tempting Alden to sweep him. Alden does not take the chance and Hanif regains his stance. Again they are exchanging knees. Hanif is defending himself well, but he is being controlled by Alden.
The Ref separates them. Alden tries a head kick but does not land it, Hanif tries for a low shot, he’s looking tired, again Alden pushes him back against the cage, you can see the frustration on Hanifs face at these tactics but he needs to use the underhooks to turn Alden to create opportunity. He is not dictating the pace of the fight and Alden has been pushing him against the cage again.
It’s over the round ends, it’s going to the judges.
It’s up to the Judges we await the announcement.
It’s a Unanimous Draw with two judges scoring a draw and the third a win for Hanif.
That was a very enjoyable fight and a fair decision, well done to both the fighters.
