DARE FIGHT SPORTS - The Most Dangerous Gameshow

The team from the underground: DARE bring us the last episode of the first series of The Most Dangerous Gameshow and it looks like they saved the best till last.

Let's be honest it starts well with "The Entertainer" Jon Nutt at a roadside drinking joint with his beautiful lady (boy?) friends and the amazing Xanny and Jon may already be the worse for wear as at one stage he does I am sure say DARE Spite Sports.

It's such a shame that the authorities in Thailand have seen fit to ban MMA, the outlaws of DARE continue to do Gods work regardless. A Select few got to be around the cage on the day, the rest of us crowd around the virtual cage that is our computer screens shrink the porn window and watch the action. I don't mind closing the porn window fully for DARE because Xanny does it for me big time, even the little glimpse as her fine ass walks around the cage with the ring board between rounds!

Anyway onto the fight and todays show is Jung vs Diyor.
And the season ends with a full on three rounder and once again we see a Korean in action.
Korea may well have kicked out more breakthrough fighters this year than any other Asian nation.

The crowd at DARE are two knowledgeable to boo when the fight goes to the ground which I appreciate, the Referee, Oliver Costain is capable of standing the fight up when it gets too slow and he did a fine job here. An enjoyable and technical fight.

Looking forward to season 2.

Another enjoyable show from DARE. As usual we get some of The Entertainer and his delightful lady (boy?) friends and the amazing Xanny one of Asia's most beautiful women.

DARE can produce entertainment however the fight game extends beyond the pre fight entertainment.

In this bout: Korea vs The Predator - The Predator was misnamed. Korea dominated from the bell and was never in any trouble.

As we learn from the commentary team Jon and Dickie - "The Predator really not living up to his name sake"

"The actual Predator was of course an Alien from another planet and not a Malaysian guy that's now on the bottom".

So come for the pre fight entertainment and stay for some of the funniest commentary around.

OK I admit it I was disappointed by the first episode, not the introduction,but the length of the show, the poor quality of the fight and the fact that we did not have enough DAREness in DARE's show.

This one began looking more promising with 'The Entertainer' in the pool surrounded as he should be by beautiful ladies, this is the DARE way.

Don't forget DARE have been driven underground and so this event actually came with an element of risk as the Thai government in their misguided way have banned MMA, yes that's right the land of Muay Thai has banned MMA.

It takes more than a government ban to stop these guys and gals.

The actual quality of this fight was infinitely better than last weeks and ultimately these things depend on the quality of the fight.

Some people have moaned a bit about the commentary and I can see what they are saying, I just think Dicky Arthur needs to chillax a bit, Jon Nutt is the star and it should stay that way but Dicky has something to contribute and I am sure these two can form a good partnership.

But Is It Any Good?

Well is it?

The show starts with the ultimate showman, Jonathan Nutt introducing us to the show in a Jon Nutt stylee.

The show is just 6.22 seconds long but is it 6.22 seconds of pure DARE gold.

Now, as we know or don't, MMA in Thailand is illegal, hence this was a secret show, you could call it "Underground" as you will and who even knows where it was held, well actually only the select few but Bangkok is a given!

Todays show features The Machine vs The Battery and sadly I have got to say it's probably the weakest match-up I have ever seen in a DARE cage.

The Machine may look mean in his pictures but he very soon had the fight beat out of him, a few good shots and he basically lost all heart and turtled up. Well, that's what happened here, the bully got bullied. The Machine may be a great visual for advertising and he may be a really nice guy, (I'm only writing this based upon the image he has created I don't know if he is a really a bully or a really nice stand-up guy), but he is at best a Kimbo Slice type of fighter, put him in a cage with rules and you take away a good portion of his skill set!

And as we all know with even the UFC, MMA is only as good as the bouts, the match-ups and well this wasn't a good one.

I am sure future shows (weekly on Thursdays) will feature much better fights, DARE is certainly known for good match-ups and exciting bouts.

Of course one of the things that made DARE so special was the setting and the attitude.

Bangkok, Club Insomnia, Sukhumvit and DARE.

Sadly, that just did not transfer through this show, we need more Jonathan Nutt, more Xanny (please), even some Jussi. We need the walk-outs, the noise, the music the attitude. In short we need DARE and I hope future shows give us that.

For now, I am an interested fan just waiting for THAT big fight, I know that some are coming, so I guess I had better be patient.

So to sum up, this wasn't the best bout to start a series off with and we need more of 'The Entertainer" and more of Bangkok for colour. Let's see the after party, lets get some of that DARE flavor coming at us through our computer screens.

MMA Action in Sabah

MMA Action from Malaysian Borneo

It's very easy to think that all the MMA in Malaysia is centered around Kuala Lumpur, the majority of MMA gyms are there, the majority of events are there and of course the majority of the fighters are there. But.....

That's changing,  of course, there is the long established Ultimate MMA in Johor and the fast growing Ultimate Beatdown events.

Penang is on the map with gyms and more to come but what of that other part of Malaysia, Malaysian Borneo?

Well, It's got it's own MMA scene it's small but it's strong and it's respected.

For instance: AJ Lias of Borneo Tribal Squad is so well respected as a trainer that he regularly goes over to the Philippines to help train one of Asia's hottest up and coming prospects the undefeated Mark Striegl (10-0)

The boys from Borneo have occasionally sent fighters out to fight in events, AJ Lias himself has fought at both DARE and ONE FC.

But now we have news of Sabah's First MMA Event.

It was held at Kinabalu Fighters Martial Art & Fitness Centre

Maxwell has been  doing kickboxing for 1 year & has done a few BJJ/MMA seminar classes with coaches brought in. 

David is a considered to have better BJJ experience.

Don't forget the Ultimate Fightnight (Now Ultimate Beatdown) started out as a gym based event (in Johor) and now is in a bigger venue attracting up to 400 fans.

DARE - THE MACHINE VS BATTERY - The Most Dangerous Gameshow

OK I know that at the moment DARE is more of a mystery and very few people really know what is happening just now. We heard there was to be an event on the 29th September but nothing else has been released and it's getting late in the day so I guess only a lucky few will be present 'underground'.

(UPDATE: Boyd Clarke from Phuket Top Team has just posted on Facebook that it's all confirmed and his fighters are Bangkok bound - So 29th September it is. Game On as they say!)

But, we do have some news of DARE's new TV Show which will air on October 4th.

Frankly, I'll take what I can get so here are the details from Jussi, Jonathan and the gang.

Exclusive: Catching Up With “The Game” by The Coffee Boy

If you had not heard of Arnaud “The Game” Lepont before ONE FC 4, I’m pretty sure you’ll remember him after his exciting performance against Evolve MMA’s Brian Choi. From his bizarre entrance with the mask and chains, to his late come-from-behind comeback rear-naked choke victory, and then calling out one of MMA’s greatest lightweights ever in Shinya Aoki.

He’s loud, he’s talented, and he holds nothing back both in the cage and out. Love him or hate him, if you’re watching MMA on this side of the world, you can’t help but watch him and follow him closely. So what’s next for ONE FC’s French martial artist?

I finally got a chance to catch up with him and find out what’s going on, what’s his next move?  And, he was more than ready to let loose and get the ball rolling.

After ONE FC 4, he didn’t take too much of a break, and was already traveling, training, and setting up his next fight.

“I have been a little everywhere! I spent some time with my son and family, visiting my friends in Bangkok, enjoying the food and drinks, and letting my body recover and heal,” he reflects, as if this was years ago. “It was a good time, a short time. I am already back in the gym, back at MuayFit. No time to rest — my job is to be ready to fight, already building a new version of The Game.”

If you know Arnaud like I do, you know he can’t spend too much time away from martial arts, and the opportunity to make a living so his son can have a good life. Even when he is injured, he pushes through. Take for example the weeks leading up to his ONE FC debut against Brian Choi:

“I tore my knee two weeks before my fight at ONE FC 4 and doctors asked me to pull out from the card and take a couple of weeks to let my body recover,” Lepont explains, “Pulling out from the ONE FC fight card would mean no pay check, and I need this money to offer my son a better life than mine.”

We hear it all the time – a fighter will come up with a reason for bad performances and such, but it’s easy to understand where Lepont is coming from. He also received a yellow card before the fight began and it left many people confused.

He explains that it was “…impossible for me to fight without the tape on my knee due to the injury. I told Victor Cui (head of ONE FC) and Matt Hume (Referee) about it. So, I was a little surprised on the day of the fight when the referee (Yuji Shimada) asked me to un-tape my knee, and gave me a yellow card before the fight even started.”

Despite the odd start to his fight, it woke him up and made him more alert and pumped up to win the fight. Right at the beginning it started off as a slug-fest, both men throwing caution to the wind, with Lepont having an edge over Choi. He was then taken down, which set the tone for the rest of the fight until his comeback submission in the third round. When I asked him about his performance, he naturally had a lot to say:

“There is good and there is bad. The most important thing of all, is that even in victory you find a way to improve yourself as a fighter. I was looking to put on a show and get the bonus, but surprisingly, they were no bonuses for ONE FC4. I honestly think myself and Brian earned the fight of the night. I was really looking for the knock out, but as I was not able to train cardio for almost two weeks before the fight, I was a little short.

“After hearing Brian claiming in the trailer for the bout that, “only a black belt world champion in BJJ could submit him”…I was hoping to get a submission. He is a real wrestler and keeps very low position on the ground, it’s tough to be able to work on the ground. But whatever people say, I think I was winning the fight. I was more aggressive, I was winning on the stand up, and I was more active on the ground. Having two takedowns and laying and praying doesn’t make you win fights. But honestly, Brian is a tough mother f***er and I have a lot of respect for him.”

Soon after ONE FC 4, Lepont told me he was going to be in Bangkok for a little bit, and when I asked him about it at that time, all he had to say was “Game On, Mut*&er F&^ker.”

Now, if you’re familiar with that phrase, you know that has DARE written all over it. And sure enough, Arnaud was back in Bangkok with the boys at DARE setting up his next fight.

“I have couple of fights in my contract with ONE FC and DARE FC, so I am lucky I can decide between the two best organizations in Asia,” he explains gleefully.

He is still part of DARE’s “million dollar” tournament, and his next fight with the promotion will likely be a continuation of the tournament. This did surprise me, however, as I was under the impression he might be heading to Manila for ONE FC 5, going down in August. So I had to ask about the possibility of a fight with his idol Shinya Aoki, and he again had much to say on the subject:

“Yes, I called out Aoki. There is no bad blood, I am a fan of Aoki. This guy is a legend of our sport. I am 32, I don’t care for one more belt around my hips, but I want once in my life to fight one of my idols. What is wrong with that? I am on a six fight winning streak, beating guys like Haja and Choi and I am the first guy to beat them before the limit,” he explains, and then continues,  “Aoki wrote on his twitter that he was “ok for the fight”, and I hoped that OneFC would put me against him, sadly they offered me someone else.

“I was really disappointed because, I was honestly thinking that it could have been a great fight, because; even if I only have a 5% chance to win it…I honestly think I can shock the world. Maybe that’s why they didn’t give it to me. I was only focused on Aoki, so instead of facing another opponent at the next ONE FC I will wait. For now, I prefer to get back in DARE FC’s cage and bring home my million dollars.”

So for now he won’t be getting a shot at his idol, and will be heading to DARE’s next event, going down in September (underground…whatever that means). I tried getting some inside information on where DARE will be headed, but Lepont just smiles a cunning smile, which tells me he won’t be saying much on the matter.

“I cannot give you anything cause Jon “Awesome” Nutt will kill me. Honestly, it will be a most f***ing awesome event. It will be something so crazy that people will talk about it for years.” And he means that sincerely.

So with his fight career on the rise, training and working at Muayfit, doing his best to give his son a good life, it seems like everything is his for the taking. Even with his busy schedule, he still does have plans in the future.

“You know me. I am a father, I am already 32, I still have a couple of fights and then it will be time to say “bye bye” to my fans. Fighting a couple of times in DARE FC, getting my money and my tournament belt, maybe a fight in UFC and then done.”

It came off to me like Randy Couture nearing the end of his career (all three times), so when I asked him about his future projects, he did already have something planned:

“So I am thinking “what is next?” I think I will try to open a gym in 2013, maybe later, affiliate or not, but I want to be back as manager cause I understand well the Asian way and I can make something great again like I used to have in Vietnam. But definitely not in Malaysia. I am 100% Muayfit here.”

“The Game” is a man with a plan, always thinking five steps ahead. All he wants to do is go out there, put on beastly performances in the cage, live the sport of MMA, and do all he can to provide his family with the best opportunities in life as best he can.

So watch out for Arnaud “The Game” Lepont in DARE’s next event, and stay updated here for his opponent once it is confirmed. Love him or hate him, Lepont says it best:

Island Fight Night ~ A Fun Night of Battle in Phuket

Phuket Top Team continue their rise to dominance in Asian MMA with the next stage in their story: Island Fight Night.

Because this is the first event and therefore things are liable to change-up until the last-minute there is no confirmed Fight Card yet, but once it is released we will publish it for your information.

Of course it stand’s to reason if you are in or around Phuket then you should go along for a fun night out, Eat, Drink and Watch Fighting on the beautiful Thai Island of Phuket, doesn’t get much better does it. If you have a few dollars burning a hole in your pocket and fancy a quick trip to Phuket, well this is the weekend to do it.

Now of course we can’t all make it, so you will be pleased to hear that the WHOLE event will be recorded live and then after the event once it has been tidied up posted on YouTube. Plans for future events are for them to be streamed live via Ustream.com so we can all be involved.

In an exclusive interview with MMANewsAsia Phuket Top Teams Boyd Clarke told us what it’s all about.

Now to be straight with you all this is not a Professional MMA event, those as we know from our friends at DARE are banned.

This is a place for mainly amateur fights of varying types to give people a solid foundation in a nice safe controlled environment before taking the small step up to events from the likes of MFC and UB and then having proved themselves stepping up a notch again to the likes of DARE, URCC, Legend FC, PRO etc all leading hopefully to a shot at ONE FC.  A very smart move as that has long been a gap in the market. A safe opportunity to get started.

This event will include Muay Thai, Boxing, Submission Grappling and a special pro fight called TK-1 (This is the only Pro fight).

They expect 6/7 fights on the night, but there could of course be late additions.

As it stands now expect: 2 amateur MMA bouts, 2 muay thai bouts, 1 ADCC rules grappling, 2 amateur boxing bouts and 1 TK1 Fight.

One very interesting fight will be a super fight: of submission grappling (ADCC rules)  between Andree Leone (One FC/ Road FC) and Anthony Leone (Bellator) – Yes, Leone vs Leone, it should be fun calling that fight.

To begin with it will be mostly fighters from Phuket, Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Issan based MMA gyms, In fact anywhere in Thailand that wants an amateur fight.

Boyd added this:

“we are actively seeking sponsorship – so if anyone wants to sponsor a night we will show the banner before each fight and on the youtube upload it will flash before and after fights. for the second event we stream live on Ustream across the globe and will then advertise the product world-wide”

It’s Ep54 And our Guest today is DARE’s very own Mr Entertainer Jonathan “Handsome J” Nutt

Jon is talking about those mysterious press releases, posters etc than have been sneaking out of Thailand recently.

What do they mean, what or where is the underground? let’s be honest there are so many questions that we want answered by the DARE boys.

They have been called many things by the press and the reaction to them is either the kind of worship  teens have for the latest band or akin to the horror that was unleashed by our (grand)parents when Jazz, Rock N Roll, Punk, maybe Rap and Hip Hop,  or, or, or um, um um, dam what have you kids done that we have reacted in horror too? Oh yeah Bieber!, Pussies!

I mean really kids what are you doing, where is the rebellion?  It’s HERE in DARE, they are the next wave of MMA entertainment and any body lucky enough to have been to one of their events would have been sucked in to their web and would have been horrified when it looked like the Thai Government had laid DARE to rest. But this is no ordinary MMA Organization.

This is DARE an Organization who can release a poster months after their last event, months after their last official announcement and even though it really says nothing the MMA press would respond to it and post it. You see we have all been sucked in and we all await what ever DARE have to say (or not say) with bated breath.

Our guest this episode is Jonathan Nutt, Dares Ambassador of Awesomeness, MC, Entertainer, Sex God (oopss how did that get in their?) the only man in the world who would turn down the sex kitten that is Xanny while the rest of us would shower her with money and gifts in our fawning pathetic helplessness.

This is the man who carries the duty that is DAREs mouthpiece on his shoulders like it’s a soft silk scarf (the finest Thai silk of course) not realizing just how important a task that really is. He is the light in the darkness, the shining beacon of hope in a world ridden with…….. Oh I can’t go on, it’s just impossible to convey how much this man and the DARE organization mean to the future of MMA, they are game changers and the good news is they are part of the ONE FC network so Victor Cui and his team have access to so much that will move MMA forward for us all.

And yet you will notice that this is just a short show just 36 minutes and much of that is music or stuff! WTF I hear you say, don’t worry it’s still well worth it and of course that’s how DARE roll a whole week of missed appointments and delays and when we finally get Handsome J he is in the middle of a 4 hands massage and can only stick with us until the happy ending, but don’t worry he will be back within a couple of weeks when he can tell us even more.

ONE FC 4 Main Card Breakdown: Arnaud Lepont vs Brian Choi

Everyone here at MMA News Asia was bummed out when we found out the rumors about Eddie Ng having to withdraw was true. However, this matchup is still a great one, with “Fight of the Night” honors written all over it.

Arnaud “The Game” Lepont (8 – 1) is on a five-fight winning streak, and seems to be getting better with each fight he goes into. Prior to his signing to ONE FC, he has fought for GOW, MYT, and more recently DARE. He is known for his heavy hands, sharp Muay Thai skills, and slick submissions.

While he has six wins by way of submission, it doesn’t really tell you much about “The Game” if you haven’t watched him fight before. He has a way of finding himself in good positions and manages to pull off a sneaky submission when you least expect it. That said, he does possess the ability to knock you out cold, or land bombs until the referee has to jump in.

His last two fights demonstrated the speed and technically sound ground game he possesses. Against Jian Kai Chee, it only took a minute for him to get him to the ground and land several heavy bombs until Kai Chee tapped out. Against Krzysztof Hajtalowicz, he was able to stand with him and bang, and then seemed in trouble off his back, until he pulled off a sneaky guillotine choke to force the tap out.

Standing in his way, however, is Brian “Polar Bear” Choi (3 – 1). Choi is a fast-rising Korean mixed martial artist known more for his ground game. With a background in wrestling in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he has fought for Martial Combat, DARE, and more recently Road FC.

Brian Choi has the ability to take his opponents down almost at will, and its no secret that training with Evolve – widely considered the best MMA gym in Asia –  will give any of his opponents something to think about, considering his team and training partners include Shinya Aoki, Eddie Ng, Zorobabel Moreira, and a slew of other great fighters.

He has beaten the likes of Jin Gang Wang (via submission by ‘kimura’), and Isamu Himura and Sebastien Garguier by dominating his opponents, demonstrating a fair standup game but an even better ground game.

In his last fight, he was dominated by fellow Korean prospect Bae Young Kwon, who gave Choi his first loss on his record. He has been training hard, and is adamant about not tasting defeat again.

One can expect a fast-paced fight when these two meet. It’s a no-brainer that Lepont is going to try to keep this one standing right from the beginning, and I think that will set the tone of the fight. Choi probably will be willing to engage him, and while he does have a decent standup game, I believe he will go for the takedown.

Here’s where I’m curious how the fight will go. Choi has a good ground game, and probably has improved exponentially since his last fight, but history tells us that Lepont almost ALWAYS finds himself in a good position to pull off a victory. That said, however, Lepont has been submitted before, and Choi does have a good chance of pulling off a submission.

I’m predicting that the fight will be a grinding one, where both fighters will absolutely need to appear dominant and the busier fighter. I give them both an equal chance on the ground, but standing up Lepont has a significant advantage – at least that’s how it appears when you compare both their fights thus far in their careers.

The Coffee Boy’s prediction: After much thought, I’ve come to the conclusion that it will probably go past the first round, despite me saying otherwise on our podcast the last time I was on. I predict a second-round TKO victory for Arnaud Lepont.

DARE From The Underground – I don’t know what it means but I’m Excited!

Look it’s like this, MMA in Thailand got banned and as there was really only one MMA organization of note that meant DARE got banned. Now, If you have never been to Bangkok for a DARE event it might not been much to you.

But really think about it – Best Food in The World – Best Looking Women in The World – Most Exciting City in The World – Most Friendly MMA Organisation In The World – Best Place to Watch MMA in the World – Best Place To Wake Up Next To A Ladyboy in the World (OK scrap that last one!)  DARE (and BANGKOK) may not be number one in all those classes but take it from me it ranks pretty fucking high up. And if you ever saw a Las Vegas ladyboy well no contest!

Hmm this post has taken a turn for the bizarre – Look it’s like this, DARE isn’t just an MMA event, It’s an MMA trip worth taking no mater where in the world you might be coming from.

And here’s the good news – We got news from the DARE boys – throughout all the MMA banned in Thailand fuss the calmest people of all were the boys from DARE, they were always confident they would be back and it seems they are.

Now, I’m not saying they are back in Bangkok because to be honest I don’t think the next show will be, BUT, they still deserve our love and our support because………. Well, because they are DARE and wherever this next show is you really should try to be there!

So here’s the information we have for now:

DARE is about to launch its 2nd chapter, together with some major upcoming announcements.

We are extremely happy about the progress taken during the last months, since Mixed Martial Arts
got banned in Thailand and look forward to treat all of our friends with some new and epic DARE experiences.

PODCAST Episode 40 – News From Thailand – DARE – Opportunity Knocks!

It’s episode 40 so for all those of you who thought we would never make it, suck it!

Todays’ show is our friends from DARE (Double J) Jussi and Handsome J. These little monkeys have been involved directly in one of the major stories in Asian MMA for the last few weeks. The banning of MMA in Thailand. As all our readers should know there really is only one MMA organisation in Thailand and that is DARE.  So in reality that ban is actually DARE is banned in Thailand, which is a very sad state of affairs.

DARE have in less than a year created a cult of DARE. I mean think about it, really good quality MMA match-ups, Flashing Lights, Loud Music, A venue that means you are close to the action, easy access to lots of alcohol and more pretty girls than you can shake a stick at  and all right in the middle of the world-famous Sukhumvit Road. What could be better?

Well, I guess we will soon find out. Jussi and Handsome J seem to be the most calm people out there, while all around them people are screaming that we are doomed, that the zombie apocalypse is near. 

Double J are striding happily across the MMA landscape with big grins on their faces with a message to us all that “It’s All Good!” They have no plans to just close DARE, they will in fact be doing the opposite. DARE will rise from the flames like a Phoenix and coud very well be appearing in a city near you!

Yes, as their own latest statements have put it, they are getting the BANNED back together.
