Live From Bangkok - A Catch Up!

I don't quite know what I have been doing but these podcasts/vblogs? whatever passed me by.

It's DARE's Jon Nutt and his buddy Ben Stark (with DJ Ree) talking Asian MMA, and also some stuff bout living in Thailand. And, since the MMA News Asia digest went into a medically induced coma the Asian MMA scene has only really had the Aussies of "This Week In MMA" (TWIMMA) and as much as I like them we have no Asian based MMA podcast worth a shit!

So, I feel it only right to support Mr Nutt as he is one of the nicest, coolest expat dudes in Thailand. He and DARE have always been great to us at this website so we wanna show some love.

The first three episodes have been fun and we wish Mr Nutt and the crew all the best for the future with this endeavour.

It's catch up time - first three episodes posted here.

Cage Fighting Championship and DARE Fighting Championship are they still going?

CFC and DARE FC, Still Breathing?

Two pillars of the ONE FC network, the Australian, Cage Fighting Championship and Thailand's DARE FC seem to have fallen off the face of the earth.

The last time we saw an event from CFC was CFC 21 way back in May 2012
That event of course would not have done much to help the image of CFC as it featured the Bob Sapp Race to Tap tour, whereby Mr Sapp seemed to be on a personal mission to see just how quickly he could tap out and collect his ill gotten gains.

Since that event the MMA world in Australia has continued to grow, we have had the TUF Smashes leading to many fighters heading to the UFC. MMA in Australia is on the rise but CFC seems to have stopped and got off of the spinning wheel.

The last action on their website was news of a TV deal with the All Sports Network back in June 2012. This was an exclusive five year agreement.

Their facebook page  was silent from October 2012 but last month it did have one post but it was just an advert for “Natures Energy Juice”.

On March 19th somebody wrote on their page asking if they were still putting on promotions and this has no reply.

Their twitter feed is following a similar path – dead since October and then a March 19th advert for the same drink.

So let’s assume it’s dead or at the very least in a coma.

Are ONE FC going to replace them? Let’s be honest there are plenty of Australian organizations that could certainly step into fill the gap.

Perth has K’Oz Entertainment who put on the Bragging Rights events. They have run five events since January 2012 with their last show in February 2013 which featured ex UFC warrior Kendall Grove and they have a great knack for bringing in  American talent to really test the local fighters.

Or how about Brace? They have been running since 2009 and had their 19th show in February 2013 with plans for at least two more shows this year.

They have also run the first Brace Girls event (October 2012). Kya Pate the CEO of Brace is one of the most knowledgeable men in the Australian fighting scene.

There are of course other organizations, Australian MMA is rapidly rising.

Then we come to Thailands DARE FC. They were the badboy of Asian MMA, The MMA brand for the party people. You were always guaranteed an exciting and well run show with DARE, a great event in a great venue with a great fight card, run by great people in a great city.

DARE FC started out with a bang in June 2011 with future ONE FC fighters: Arnuad LePont, Jian Kai Chee, Zorobabel Moreira, Daniel Mashamaite, Brian Choi, and well known Asian MMA fighter Will Chope, a pretty amazing first card.

March 17h 2012 they held their fourth show again featuring LePont, and Chope, also one of Asian MMA’s fastest rising stars Mark Striegl (PXC) as well as others who also ended up on ONE FC cards.

Then came the news that MMA was banned in Thailand. But DARE used the fuss this created to build an even bigger buzz around the organization, they truly were Asia’s masters of online marketing.

In September 2012 they held an event for invited guests only  - The Most Dangerous Gameshow.

Sadly, the fight card was sub standard compared to their past shows epitomized by Mike Connnors: a tattooed  angry looking dude who sadly looked scarier than he was once in the cage. Where he suffered his second first round loss.

These fights were released by DARE as an internet show. The highlights of these shows was showman extraordinaire Jon Nutt and his little pre-fight cameos and then his stint on the commentary desk. (He would do a great job at ONE FC!) Sadly the fights were not of the standard that we had come to expect from DARE.

Since then nothing – a click on the events page comes up with a picture of a cage with one word – Patience ;) this gives hope that maybe they could come back. Especially as MMA in Thailand seems to be not so banned anymore, with regular events held in Phuket and Koh Samui seemingly without incident.

I for one hope DARE is not dead but if it is what next for ONE FC and Thai MMA?

Realistically there is no organisation in Thailand beyond DARE that is of a big enough size to be beneficial to ONE FC at present.

Of course it could be argued that ONE FC is now big enough that it does not need these allegiances anymore, it lays claim to 95% of all Asian fighters and it’s own shows are starting to come thick and fast with it’s third show of the year due in April in Manila. And, the crowds are really starting to build for these events.

Personally, I think it should make an allegiance with a major Australian MMA organization to feed it top quality Aussie and NZ talent as they come through. It’s time for ONE FC to drop some of the low level undercard fights and start using the reach and power it is attaining to really showcase some of the real Australasian rising talent.

So You Think You Are Good Enough For MMA - Are You Prepared To Really Work Hard?

Tiger Muay Thai Give You A Glimpse of The Work Required To Become An MMA Warrior

These videos have been out there a while but I thought it would be good to show them again as there is an ever growing interest in MMA.

I see people all the time who claim they are MMA fighters who have no idea of what it really takes to be an MMA champions, the amount of work needed and the amount of sacrifice it takes.

This is what it's all about:

DARE at it Again! Episode 3 of The Most Dangerous Gameshow

The Most Dangerous Gameshow Episode 3

OK this is what they want. This video starts with The Entertainer (Jon Nutt) and The Naughty Minx (Xanny) in one of Bangkok's hottest hotspots Spankys.

This is DARE, this is what we have been waiting for Nutt doing what he does best and Xanny driving all men wild with her easy sexuality. Once she starts on that banana all bets are off and when she puts her hand on Jon Nutts knee I'm sure many of us imagined that was us and popped an inappropriate boner. Of course not me, I am above all that stuff (ahem).

Anyway, after I splooged (oppps I meant sneezed) and grabbed a tissue to clear up the mess it was onto the fight.

It was Isamu Himura vs Zeb.

Now Isamu is a polarising character in Asia, people seem to either hate him or like him, of course I am also above all that (I see a theme emerging) and have no opinion either way (I am well known for having no opinion).

Isamu as well as fighting is also behind the Combat Sport Asia website and Podcast. Since the passing of our own MMANewsAsia podcast, the only Asiancentric MMA podcast worth a dam.

Isamu was representing Thailands (Phuket based) Tiger Muay Thai team.

He was fighting Swedish fighter Sebastion "Zeb" who is fighting out of Ole's Laursens ~ Legacy Gym.

They physically looked close in size but Zeb did look more ripped, not that I would notice that!

I can't tell you about the fight because I'm posting the video so what would be the point.

The commentary team Nutt and Dicky Arthur are gelling nicely and their are some great lines in here.

Before the video, I do want to say this - This is DARE at last we get a feel and a taste of what DARE is about because after all DARE is about Bangkok as much as it is about MMA. The Thai government should understand that DARE are ambassadors of Thailand.

And Bangkok is as much a home of MMA as anywhere else in the world, what the f**k am I dribbling on about? - Here's The Video:

Podcast Ep54 – News From The Underground With DARE’s Jonathan Nutt

Published on June 30, 2012 by The Editor in DARE, PODCAST

It’s Ep54 And our Guest today is DARE’s very own Mr Entertainer Jonathan “Handsome J” Nutt

Jon is talking about those mysterious press releases, posters etc than have been sneaking out of Thailand recently.

What do they mean, what or where is the underground? let’s be honest there are so many questions that we want answered by the DARE boys.

They have been called many things by the press and the reaction to them is either the kind of worship  teens have for the latest band or akin to the horror that was unleashed by our (grand)parents when Jazz, Rock N Roll, Punk, maybe Rap and Hip Hop,  or, or, or um, um um, dam what have you kids done that we have reacted in horror too? Oh yeah Bieber!, Pussies!

I mean really kids what are you doing, where is the rebellion?  It’s HERE in DARE, they are the next wave of MMA entertainment and any body lucky enough to have been to one of their events would have been sucked in to their web and would have been horrified when it looked like the Thai Government had laid DARE to rest. But this is no ordinary MMA Organization.

This is DARE an Organization who can release a poster months after their last event, months after their last official announcement and even though it really says nothing the MMA press would respond to it and post it. You see we have all been sucked in and we all await what ever DARE have to say (or not say) with bated breath.

Our guest this episode is Jonathan Nutt, Dares Ambassador of Awesomeness, MC, Entertainer, Sex God (oopss how did that get in their?) the only man in the world who would turn down the sex kitten that is Xanny while the rest of us would shower her with money and gifts in our fawning pathetic helplessness.

This is the man who carries the duty that is DAREs mouthpiece on his shoulders like it’s a soft silk scarf (the finest Thai silk of course) not realizing just how important a task that really is. He is the light in the darkness, the shining beacon of hope in a world ridden with…….. Oh I can’t go on, it’s just impossible to convey how much this man and the DARE organization mean to the future of MMA, they are game changers and the good news is they are part of the ONE FC network so Victor Cui and his team have access to so much that will move MMA forward for us all.

And yet you will notice that this is just a short show just 36 minutes and much of that is music or stuff! WTF I hear you say, don’t worry it’s still well worth it and of course that’s how DARE roll a whole week of missed appointments and delays and when we finally get Handsome J he is in the middle of a 4 hands massage and can only stick with us until the happy ending, but don’t worry he will be back within a couple of weeks when he can tell us even more.

DARE from the Underground

DARE from the Underground – ?

Published on June 2, 2012 by The Editor in DARE

DARE From The Underground – I don’t know what it means but I’m Excited!

Look it’s like this, MMA in Thailand got banned and as there was really only one MMA organization of note that meant DARE got banned. Now, If you have never been to Bangkok for a DARE event it might not been much to you.

But really think about it – Best Food in The World – Best Looking Women in The World – Most Exciting City in The World – Most Friendly MMA Organisation In The World – Best Place to Watch MMA in the World – Best Place To Wake Up Next To A Ladyboy in the World (OK scrap that last one!)  DARE (and BANGKOK) may not be number one in all those classes but take it from me it ranks pretty fucking high up. And if you ever saw a Las Vegas ladyboy well no contest!

Hmm this post has taken a turn for the bizarre – Look it’s like this, DARE isn’t just an MMA event, It’s an MMA trip worth taking no mater where in the world you might be coming from.

And here’s the good news – We got news from the DARE boys – throughout all the MMA banned in Thailand fuss the calmest people of all were the boys from DARE, they were always confident they would be back and it seems they are.

Now, I’m not saying they are back in Bangkok because to be honest I don’t think the next show will be, BUT, they still deserve our love and our support because………. Well, because they are DARE and wherever this next show is you really should try to be there!

So here’s the information we have for now:

DARE is about to launch its 2nd chapter, together with some major upcoming announcements.
We are extremely happy about the progress taken during the last months, since Mixed Martial Arts
got banned in Thailand and look forward to treat all of our friends with some new and epic DARE experiences.

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the 2nd Chapter of DARE, welcome to the Underground.
With kindest regards from Bangkok,
DARE Team
