World MMA News Digest - The Podcast Ep1

OK people I have tried and failed to get some willing co-hosts to work with me on relaunching what was the Asian MMA News Podcast.
I tried to stay away but couldn't. I still feel their is a massive gap in the scene for a good Asian based podcast. I'm not saying this is it. But at least we will try.

It's the first episode of a new concept covering the days MMA stories in 5 minutes or less.

Lets see how it goes.

Today we look back at ONE FC Champions and Warriors and PXC 39 and we also cheer the news that DARE Fight Sports are legal.

A Great Event, Nicely Covered By What's Going On In Johor? But One Comment Proves You Can't Please Everybody

Ultimate Beatdown 12 that took place last Saturday night @ Cheers Bar, Danga Bay was nothing short of heart-stopping, electrifying action!

These fighters truly put on a great show for the crowd of at least 500 strong, and for that we salute them! Fighters were not only local, but came from as far as India and Philippines, and of course our neighbours from across the border! You surely won't want to miss out on the next Ultimate Beatdown event!

  • Alex Kee Wow! As if we don't have enough violence in our midst in JB already? Yes, understandably, it is only a show and even if we are all willing suckers, don't you think we have other better non violence sports to promote? Yes, No? Or are we just way too shallow to appreciate anything deeper? Haiz.
    • Alan Cole Alex Kee, people in Johor are always telling me how dangerous it is here. All I see are people racing motorbikes up and down the waterfront past Danga Bay putting themselves and others in danger of serious injury or worse. There is an increase in robbery and violent crime and yet you decide to talk out about this. The people that take part in this event are dedicated sports men and women who train very hard over many months at their own expense for a sport in which there is little financial reward. These people don't roam the streets with knives or sticks, they train hard in the cage, they look after their health, they eat right. Your ill informed opinion is very sad. My youngest Son had his first fight at 15 and trains at least three times a week for 3 hours a night and usually a couple more times at home, he does not smoke or drink alcohol. What were you doing at his age (now 17)? My older son this year has climbed Mount Kinabalu, Run many long distance runs in Singapore and spent the last nine months being trained by his younger brother for his first fight - He's the guy in the bottom R/H picture by the way. He's from England and he proudly fought for Johor at this event. He's 23 and does not drink or smoke, trains very hard and is a great kid. I ask you again what were you doing at his age. I am very proud of all the people involved in this event and what they have done with their lives - From the boys that were trouble makers at school until they discovered MMA to the guys that have lost lots of weight and become healthy. So please keep your mis-informed comments to your self. Over 500 people paid to come along and have a good time, there was no trouble and everybody had seemed to enjoy themselves. Why should you care? I don't tell you what you should enjoy. Now I'm sure that you are a really nice guy, but your comments did annoy me because I know how hard my boys and the other fighters train and how they treat each other with respect before and after they fight. I also know that the boys who came from Evolution MMA gym in India endured a horrendous long mostly over land journey to be there and were great people, there were people there from Thailand, The Philippines, Borneo and Singapore plus a few Asian based people like my Son (England) and others. I'm really not seeing the problem you are seeing. The hotels and restaurants benefitted from all these visitors.

In each city we go to, MMA fans are eager to rally behind their local heroes and support their nation’s warriors. This time, Singaporean MMA fans will have plenty to cheer about as the age-old rivalry between Singapore and Malaysia is reignited as Singapore’s own Sherilyn Lim, Juan Wen Jie and Stephen Langdown face-off against stiff Malaysian competition In the ONE FC cage. I know that the roar of the Singapore crowd cheering on their hometown warriors will be deafening and I can’t wait to hear the Indoor Stadium erupt with those cheers once again.”

Ann Osman fights out of Borneo Tribal Squad in Kota Kinabalu. She will be the first female mixed martial artist to represent Malaysia in Asia’s largest mixed martial arts organization. Coached by ONE FC Featherweight standout AJ “Pyro” Lias Mansor, Osman brings a relentless will to win and will be looking to emerge with her hands raised.

Sherilyn Lim will be representing Singapore’s oldest mixed martial arts gym, Fight G. She has been part of Fight G since 2007, when she joined their Muay Thai program and has been training under the tutelage of Singaporean MMA pioneer Darren De Silva. Sherilyn has quickly established herself as the best female mixed martial artist in Singapore and fight fans have been eagerly expecting her debut on the largest stage in Asian MMA. She will be looking to do the Republic proud on Asia's largest stage when she competes in front of the Singapore fans on 18 October.

Juan Wen Jie will be fighting out of Impact MMA in Singapore. He is a former Singapore Manhunt 2011 winner who went on to represent the country in the year’s international Manhunt competition. Since then, he has made the transition to mixed martial arts and remains undefeated two fights into his professional career. He will be looking to keep the fight standing and showcase his Muay Thai and Sanshou skills. He was initially scheduled for a bout in the third ONE FC event but had to put those plans on hold after suffering an injury. Now fully recovered, he looks to get his ONE FC career back on track with a victory over Alex Lim.

Alex Lim is a Malaysian veteran fighting out of Training Grounds Martial Arts & Fitness. He possesses a dogged determination that has served him well in his mixed martial arts career thus far. He will hope his strength in the clinch and his willingness to get into a brawl will propel him to a victory. Malaysians have won every ONE FC bout against Singaporeans thus far and Lim will be looking to keep that streak going.

Stephen Langdown will be making his professional mixed martial arts debut against Mark Marcellinus. A well-known face in social media circles, he has thousands of followers on social media sites Instagram and Twitter. The young Singaporean has been training hard and has been eagerly awaiting his opportunity to prove himself on the biggest stage in MMA. He will finally get the chance to showcase his skills at ONE FC: TOTAL DOMINATION against a Borneo native. Stephen Langdown stated, “ONE FC has a 90% market share in Asia, it is every fighter’s dream to one day appear in ONE FC and on October 18, I get to realize that dream.”

Mark Marcellinus hails from Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia. He was an orphan growing up and turned to karate and boxing while getting bullied in school. He is a qualified fitness trainer and one of the best mixed martial arts talents to hail from the state of Sabah in East Malaysia. He will be looking to silence the Singapore crowd with a finish of hometown favorite Stephen Langdown.
