Balls To Brawls - The Video Highlights

Balls To Brawl

Mauyfit Malaysia's biggest name in MMA recently held an all Amateur event called Balls to Brawl.

Sadly, I had a prior engagement but apparently a good day was had by all and there were some 40 bouts, so lots of opportunities for new fighters.

Here's the video highlights - Our thanks to Paul Teo (Mauyfits head honcho) and the always excellent Emily Lola Tan whose work this video is.

PXC On The Move, Next Stop, Araneta Coliseum

Editors Note:

MMA continues to grow in the Asian Pacific Area and one of the biggest local organisations has announced that it is on the move to a bigger arena due to overwhelming interest in it's fast growing fan base.

Once again the fans in the Philippines are proving they are the best MMA fans in Asia coming out in their thousands to watch an upcoming organisation.
PXC are well known for putting on good quality bouts and bringing in good quality fighters, fighters who have a history of making the step up to the UFC.

Here's their latest press release:

PXC BRINGS BEST MMA ACTION IN THE REGION TO THE BIG DOME ON NOVEMBER 17th!

Pacific X-treme Combat (PXC), the premier MMA organization in the Philippines and Asia-Pacific region, has announced its biggest show to date to take place on November 17th at the famous Araneta Coliseum (aka “The Big Dome”) in Manila, Philippines. Headlining the star-studded international fight card will be some of the top rising stars of MMA from the Philippines, as well as Hawaii, Guam, Japan & Korea. The event is expected to draw thousands of MMA fans from all corners of the Philippines, and along with being broadcast live nation-wide on AKTV via IBC-13, the event will stream online for the world to experience as well!

PXC produced 2 events at Resorts World Manila’s Newport Performing Arts Theater in 2011 before relocating the show to The Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City to produce 4 stellar events. On September 1st, PXC-33 broke new ground for MMA in the Philippines with almost 500,000 viewers of the live broadcast on AKTV and a sold-out Ynares Arena.

According to PXC’s CEO, E.J. Calvo, “We are extremely excited about the move to Araneta. Our fighters have worked hard and performed well, and deserve the exposure this event will bring. PXC, as an organization, has grown leaps and bounds over a decade, and there is no doubt PXC can stand up against any MMA promotion in the region right now.”

Calvo added, “Our goal is to continue to grow PXC for the benefit of MMA fans in the Philippines, as well as for the long-term growth of the sport in the entire region.”

In less than 2 years since PXC arrived in the Philippines, the promotion has clearly been established as the premier MMA organization in the country. Along with media co-production partner, AKTV, the sports channel of TV5, PXC has successfully built a mainstream viewing audience for the first time, attracting hundreds of thousands of viewers during nation-wide broadcasts of the MMA events. PXC is also one of the only MMA leagues outside of Japan sending fighters to The UFC, and continuously signing the best up and coming talent in Asia.

Over the last 3 months, PXC has released 2 of their top fighters to The UFC, and anticipates that several more will get the same opportunity over the next year or so. PXC Welterweight Champ, Hyun Gyu Lim, and Lightweight standout, Jon Tuck, were signed by The UFC to compete in their upcoming event in Macau on November 10th. PXC prides themselves on recruiting and showcasing the best up and coming MMA talent in the Asia-Pacific region, but also has been known to feature elite fighters from Brazil, Europe, Canada, and various areas of the US.

PXC has also treated fans by flying in Filipino-American stars of the sport, including Brandon Vera and Mark Munoz, to coach their gym mates from California, as well as “Big John” McCarthy to referee bouts and hold seminars with officials, meet fans, and promote MMA in the Philippines.

PXC-34 will be the 7th show in the Philippines for the Guam-based organization, and it is expected to elevate MMA in the Philippines to yet another level. Headlining the event will be the Philippines’ own, Ale “The Young Gun” Cali, the current Flyweight Champ, and prominent fighter and coach, Erwin Tagle.

PXC VP/Matchmaker, Eli Monge, stated, “We anticipate that several fighters on the card will be top prospects for The UFC in the near future, so it will be exciting to see them compete on their way up! PXC fighters to look out for include the Harris Sarmiento, Eugene Toquero, Russell Doane and Mark Striegl.”

PXC is presented by San Mig Strong Ice and Sports 5. With special thanks to E-Games, Fitness First, FHM Philippines, FHM.com.ph, Premiere Condoms, Healthway Agility Phil, Beer Below Zero, Real Sports Radio, and Loqal.ph.

But, we do have some news of DARE's new TV Show which will air on October 4th.

BRACE GIRLS ~ FIGHT CARD ANNOUNCED ~ Aussie MMA

The Australian Brace for War Organisation have released details of the Fight Card for their first  All Women's MMA Event.

MMA in Australia really is on the rise from an already lofty position. With the UFC TUF event: The Smashes showing the quality and depth of local fighters. UFC holding regular shows and of course countless great local MMA organisations.

Brace for War which is fronted by well known and respected Australian MMA figure Kya Pate are a well established organisation and this event is their first all Women's show.

Here's all the details:

BRACE 17 PRESS RELEASE

(SYDNEY 25 SEPTEMBER 2012 8.30am)

BRACE GIRLS FIGHT CARD ANNOUNCED

BRACE CEO Kya Pate today released the full card for the October 27th All Girls MMA fight event scheduled for the Gold Coast. This event is a historic event for Australian Mixed Martial Arts. It is the first time in the country’s history that this type of event is being staged. Women's MMA is still a growing sport and has been overshadowed by men’s MMA globally. It has been no surprise though that WMMA would continue to grow and gain more of the spotlight, especially considering the amount of interest that has been shown in Gina Carano, Rhonda Rousey and Miesha Tate over the last year or so.

Women have been competing on events like BRACE, Bellator, and Strikeforce for a number of years now, but it’s still rare for a full card to be made up completely of women. Events such as Jewels in Japan and Invicta FC in the United States have shown that there is a great deal of interest in WMMA and they have paved the way with full cards of women competing. BRACE known within Australia as one of the major players, being the only Australian event to stage in 7 cities over 4 states and with a heavy 2013 schedule looming, they have certainly played a major role in pioneering the sport "Down Under".

Kya Pate recently interviewed by No Gloves stated the reasons behind a full card of women competing “…girls would train as hard as the guys if not harder and it was very clear to me what this sport meant for their empowerment and enjoyment of life, so I suppose that was the main driving factor". Not only have BRACE decided to host a full card of women they have gathered together 95% of the country’s best calibre female competitors along with two Japanese Jewels stars. Fighters like Fiona Muxlow a great jiu jitsu champion and MMA fighter, Leanne Reid a champion Muay Thai fighter, Bianca Elmir and Australian Boxing Champion, Alex Chambers & Claire Fryer arguably regarded as the best 115's in the country amongst other notable females competing within Australia. BRACE will also feature two Japanese stars with Mika Nagano & Rina Tomita both fighting on the Jewels circuit.

Balls To Brawl - Amateur MMA Event

BALLS-TO-BRAWL ~ AMATEUR MMA EVENT

Malaysian MMA continues to grow and expand. We seem to be hearing stories of new gyms opening and fighters getting offered bouts beyond Malaysia's borders almost weekly and this growth has to be nurtured.
The best way to nurture the sport is at the grass roots level, the best way to do that is to provide an easy entrance to people looking to test themselves to see if they have what it takes. A controlled environment for people is a positive benefit, quality equipment, judges, ref and back up.

The biggest name at present in Malaysian MMA is MuayFit they are the only gym with a professional MMA team. Their fighters have appeared in many of the major Asian MMA organisations events. They also are growing the talent base here in Malaysia by bringing in talented coaches from overseas to pass on their skills to local fighters.

This weekend they are holding a mammoth Amateur MMA event Balls To Brawl.

When I say mammoth how does a 40 fight card sound?

Here's the Details:

"Date: September 23rd (Sunday), 2012

Time: 10 am onwards

Venue: MuayFit or another location TBC

The objective of this event is for us to discover new MMA talent in Malaysia. Someone who could be another Peter Davis. Jian Kai or Raymond Tiew, who were the first Malaysians to secure a professional fight contract with ONE FC.

Balls-to-Brawl is the biggest ever amateur MMA cage fighting event in Malaysia. It will feature approximately 80 fighters.

The winners of each fight will advance to Balls-To-Brawl 2, which will be held in November 2012. Unlike the first event, the 2nd event will be based on tournament format, with each winner getting a trophy.

The Ball-to-Brawl 2 tournament winners will then have a chance to participate in future MALAYSIAN FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP & MAYHEM Series."

So that sounds exciting doesn't it?

Last weekend we had Ultimate Beatdown 10 and this weekend a 40 fight MMA card in Kuala Lumpur, how cool is that?

But......

Here's the important part. Nothing happens without your support, so, please if you can, get yourself (and your friends) along to KL and offer your support to all the fighters and the organisers who are making this happen.

Ultimate Beatdown X: Robinson outpoints Harris, Cole submits “Mok”

Ultimate Beatdown X: Robinson outpoints Harris, Cole submits “Mok”

(by the Coffee Boy)

Malaysian MMA is still on the rise, and Ultimate Beatdown X gave fans a fun night of Muay Thai and professional MMA fights. The place wasn’t as packed as it could have been, but towards the end of the night it started getting crowded.

In the main event, Nik Harris fought Brad Robinson in what turned out to be a very technical sort of bout. Robinson managed to keep the fight on the ground, taking Harris down as often as he could. Harris seemed in trouble one or two times, but managed to defend against submission attempts pretty well.

In the third round, we saw Nik let his hands go a little bit more, and managed to land some good punches and a couple kicks. Robinson wouldn’t have any of that, clearly getting out-struck, and took it to the ground where he felt most comfortable. He controlled all of the last round, and despite it being a little less exciting, it’s understandable since they had a tough first two rounds against each other.

Brad Robinson is definitely someone to watch out for, and with a team like Fight G behind him and getting to train with  legends like Ole Laursen and Phil Baroni, the sky’s the limit for the “Vanilla Gorilla”. Nik Harris took the loss well, and was a class act post-fight. He was seen talking to Robinson, and they seemed to be cool around each other. Rumor is that Nik Harris has another fight coming up again soon.

In the co-main event, Sabastion Cole took on “Mok”, a Judo fighter. Cole came out and threw some kicks and landed some solid, fast-paced punches, and managed to get his opponent’s back, and slapped on a standing rear naked choke.

Cole was one of the more impressive fighters of the night, demonstrating a versatile skill-set in the 38 seconds the fight lasted. He improved his record to 2-1, and we’re looking forward to watching this young man fight again soon.

Ultimate Beatdown X demonstrated that Malaysians are starting to get a better feel of MMA, both the fans and the fighters alike. The fighters have shown significant improvement, and the fans were eating up every bit of every single fight. Ultimate Beatdown is already looking forward to their next event, and we’ll post up details soon once more is confirmed.
