Who Is Steve Sadoka?
Published on March 22, 2012 by The Editor in NEWS, Opinion
Steve Sadoka has recently started writing articles on The Bleacher Report a fact that makes me think it must be a piss poor excuse for an MMA website.
I don’t know where this guy gets off on writing such amazingly grandiose articles with so little real quality.
He decided to write an article ‘Power Ranking The Top MMA Organisations’
He starts with Number One: One Fighting Championship.
Now, I think very few people could argue that it has the potential to be the best MMA organisation in Asia but to start the article on ONE FC with the statement that they are “doing everything right” and that there are fighters who would not be out-of-place on a UFC show is just retarded in the extreme.
The statement that ticket sales are much better that anything the UFC managed in its first few years is very juvenile. The UFC laid the ground work for all the organisations and spent years building the sport before The TUF TV series really helped them make the breakthrough. Before UFC the sport did not exisit, they did all the spade work.
Now, I would agree that the shows have got better although the undercard at Jakarta was very low level excepting one fight. And Bob The Tap Sapp should bring no credibility to any organisation and we must hope that they have learnt from that farce.
He then goes on to place Dream second – yes they got 20,000 people to their last show a mixture of MMA and Wrestling, BUT, even Steve says there may not be another Dream event. So how is it number two if you have such a negative feeling Steve? And what about the fact that Dream has entered joint ventures with both ONE FC and Pro Elite, At best Dream may be a licensing organisation living off of past glories. (Rather like Fedor Emelianenko).
He places Deep 3rd, Shooto 4th, URCC 5th, Legend 6th, Road FC 7th, SFL 8th, DARE 9th – He then goes onto list ZST, Rings and Martial Combat as others.
Look here’s the deal, how can this guy have any credibility?
Where are PXC? their shows are well attended whether in Guam or the Philippines and the crowd numbers are right up there , certainly comparable with the URCC.
Of course Martial Combat is no longer in existence.
The rest of the rankings just seem strangely random how does SFL come in at 8 after what was a show high on production and low on fighter level?
ZST and Rings are certainly deserving of a ranking above that.
DARE are giving US$125,000 to each of 8 winners totaling US$1m. They have featured fighters from Legend and URCC and I am sure for customer satisfaction they get would rank right up there as they put on a great show and they certainly understand how to matchmake very well. The quality of the fighters they get is solid. URCC before Legend? I would love to hear that explanation. One is a regional card and the other takes fighters from oh I don’t know Korea, China, Australia, New Zealand, in fact the whole Asia pacific area try again Steve.
He writes like an internet troll posting ridiculous articles, I am sure to garner responses and make himself feel good.
He has recently written that it’s time for Fedor Emelianenko to fight for UFC. Look, sure he was great but recently he has picked his own fights and just goes to the organisation willing to pay the most, he went on a three fight losing streak at Strikeforce, Why would the UFC want him? They certainly don’t need help selling tickets and his career is almost over, he is never going to be a UFC champion. He might be a very good draw at something like ONE FC or SFL where his name could help create interest. But I do not suppose he would come for Bob Tap Sapp money of course he could fight and win championships in both of those organisations at the moment without blinking.
Steve writes”I would not want to see him thrown into the Lion’s Den and given a fight with Junior dos Santos, Cain Velasquez or Alistair Overeem straightaway, but there are plenty of opponents who would provide a real test of the 2012 Fedor.” what’s the point, UFC is about the best, he is not capable of becoming a UFC champion so what? Use him as a gate keeper for up and comers, really? How does that benefit his legacay, which is already tumbling like a pack of cards?
He goes on..
“Fans with long memories would love to see Fedor face either the recently retired Randy Couture or Mirko Cro Cop and neither fight is completely impossible.” excellent so the UFC are setting up a seniors division now. I mean really Steve great job!
His latest great article headed “Five Reasons to Watch One Fighting Championship ‘War of the Lions’ Next Weekend” Starts with a howler stating that next weekend is the fourth event! oh Steve.
Steve seems to be one of those guys excited by names rather than records – So let’s get this out of the way first:
Yes Steve Melvin Manhoef is a big name and a big man and also he is on a three fight losing streak, better than Bob Tap Sapp but not great. Now, I love Eduard Folayang personally I think he is one of the real stars of ONE FC and has the potential to go all the way to the UFC and I don’t mean as an undercard filler, but really Steve when you say people are calling him MMA’s answer to Manny Pacquiao what do they base that on? He has achieved nothing like the Pacman at this stage in his career. It’s easy to repeat other people things like they are real isn’t it Steve.
He starts to tell us that Kevin Belingon who is a solid 9-0 is not expected to beat Imanari (not expected by who, who decided that) but if he wins he bet’s Dana White wishes he was on the UFC roster. Make your mind up dude, is he good enough to beat Imanari or not? If not why would the UFC want him? The fact is it will be a great fight. But Steve’s wishy washyness does not help the cause. Belingon is another example of the great fighters coming out of the Philippines. And if he beasts Imanari he will prove he has real quality that could take him to the top.
Steve goes on to say an amazingly sweeping statement regarding Evolve MMA Gym (Singapore) stating this ”I think Evolve MMA is the best place in the world for a fighter to train because Evolve MMA doesn’t employ coaches who have had 30 MMA fights—instead they employ coaches who have had over 500 Muay Thai or BJJ matches.” Heath Sim’s recently moved to Evolve as a coach and he is regarded as one of the finest in the game and his MMA record is just 5-4-2. Hmm Steve!
Steve then goes on to tell us that Zorobabel Moreira and Eddie Ng might be good enough for UFC soon – Steve most of the Japanese fighters who build big reputations for themselves in big Asian organisations have failed at UFC, these guys have not fought enough at that type of level. Whilst I like both these fighters they are a hell of a way from UFC just yet, unless UFC are looking for some local color on the Undercard when they head this way.
Steves future UFC star Moreira has wins in ONE FC, DARE and Martial Combat and of course a 14 second knock out loss in Martial Combat as well. He most definitely is one of the best fighters in ONE FC, but ONE FC is growing and it’s fighters have to grow as well because none of them would last long in the UFC at the moment. Why not let them get solid experience over here? Why all the worry about UFC?
Eddie Ng, another guy I really like (well he is a fellow Brit) has a solid record but except for his ONE FC win (45 seconds KO) it’s not exactly steeped in big name wins.
Next, Steve treats us to this gem ”Kawajiri and Imanari are easily good enough to be able to compete with and probably beat the UFC’s top fighters at their weight”
Imanari has lost 2 of his last 3 fights in Dream, NO, present Dream fighter would trouble a UFC champion. And especially not one who has such a poor recent record against other fighters who could not make it to the UFC.
Kawajiri who in a recent interview on Tapout radio, Victor Cui described as “the best fighter in the world” a claim for which he went unchallenged by the piss poor interviewer on that terrible show. So here’s the story on the best fighter in the world – He is a really good fighter! Coming off of a three fight winning streak at Dream against good but by no possible means of measurement UFC level fighters.
So to you Steve I say meh! – You don’t need five dodgy reasons to watch ONE FC, You need One good One.
Watch ONE FC because it is striving to be the best MMA Organisation is Asia and it is getting better fighters all the time, if it can start making top quality match-ups all the way down the card including the Undercard then we can all look forward to some top quality shows from ONE FC.
And as for the Bleacher Report, you can’t just let anybody write shit like that for you, how does that help your website?
