The Main Events – Legend and ONE FC – And What Went Wrong!
So Saturday saw two big Asian MMA events Legend 7 from Macau and ONE FC Battle of Heroes from Jakarta
I wanted to write and tell you all about the main events of both competitions but well it’s like this……..
I messed up, I got the time zones wrong and thought ONE FC was starting at 7:30 Malaysia time, of course it was 7:30 Jakarta time. Then of course it started an hour later than that, just like their first event. Events start when they start! And if as I heard, it was because of a traffic jam in Jakarta, really, a traffic jam in Jakarta, from what I hear that’s the permanent state of affairs.
So, I missed Legend which was stupid because the Undercard was very professionally run and the main event cards promised much. But, I bought the Pay Per View for ONE FC and frankly I wont be doing so again!
Not ONE FC’s fault, either Ustream or my shitty Malay internet provider were incapable of giving me smoothly flowing pictures, instead giving me a stop start viewing experience that in some fights was nothing more than a slide show changing the still picture changing only about five times through the whole round.
I missed completely Bob Sapp storming through to improve
his recent record to 1-7, can he truly get to 1-8 at the Super Fight League and when will people stop paying this bum just to turn up. I was not surprised to see tweets from people saying he was up and about in the early hours of the morning on days preceding the fight. A full on top quality pro he is not. Sure he is big and scary looking but it’s MMA not wrestling, the fights are not scripted so the bum can win.

After all the pathetic fights on the undercard and all the Ustream issues I was not exactly feeling happy about the ONE FC main event, missing Bob Sapp robbed me of my light relief.
Here’s what I did get:
Kim Vs Falciroli: Kim was everybody’s favorite from ONE FC 1 after his gutsy fight against the Brazilian Leandro Issa, who try as he might could not stop Kim. Falciroli from Australia’s Cage Fighting Championship showed real quality as he defeated a heart broken Kim with a top quality rear naked choke in less than a minute.
Ribiero Vs Khabilov: This was a battle of two the best MMA gyms camps in the world – Singapore’s own Evolve and Jacksons MMA, here they are pitching their warrior’s against each other. This was a full on three round battle of good quality and probably the fight of the night.
Although, he had to fight all the way to the final bell, I think Khabilov did put on a dominant display, a future star.
Kwon Vs Banario: This fight I expected to be a real battle, but sometimes in MMA people get caught and caught cold. Kwon had dispatched Banario before he even knew he was in a fight with a rear naked choke.
Enomoto Vs Laursen: A top quality match up that promised much and mainly delivered. Laursen had come back from a years break due to injury and I understand that he also struggled to make weight, so, he was not in tip top condition, even so this would still be a great battle. And it was while it lasted but in the second round Enomoto had started laying some power on Laursen and a swift head kick took him down and Enomoto was soon holding Laursen in a very tight rear naked choke, Laursen had no choice but to tap.
So, that was the main event, thankfully I missed the first fight as for the rest, well, OK a few finished too quickly but this is MMA that stuff happens. I think ONE FC put on a very good quality Main Event.
Now, if they can sort out the Undercard quality level, we will be all set for a successful ONE FC. Sadly, I am already hearing rumors that two of the ‘stars’ at this event will again be fighting in ONE FC in KL, that does not bode well, and if either of them make the main card well…………….
