Super Fight League – Get Ready For MMA With A Bollywood Tinge

Super Fight League – Get Ready For MMA With A Bollywood Tinge

Super Fight League 1 : Rundown Edition

The Coffee Boy Turns His Spotlight on The Super Fight League It’s this Weekend People!
When I first heard about this MMA promotion based in India, which is founded by Raj Kundra (owner alongside his wife of the India Premier League (IPL) Cricket team Rajasthan Royals) and Sanjay Dutt (prominent Hindi actor and producer) I must admit I expected something over-the-top, over-hyped, and cheesy. It’s only a couple days before the event, and thus far I haven’t exactly been proven wrong.
What I’m referring to of course are the cute but cheesy promos (Bob Sapp and James Thompson always looking like they’re about to attack each other, whilst the two founders stand in between them? C’mon, man), the performances expected by Jennifer Lopez and LMFAO, and all the hype surrounding it as if this is going to be the next big thing since the announcement of One FC.
However, this is all very refreshing and serves as a nice deviation from the regular type of MMA events held. It will be interesting to see the kind of show SFL can put on.
Now let’s take a look at the fight card for SFL1, going down this weekend on March 11th at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai, India.
Bout #1: Xavier Pouve-Fakiam vs Joey Guel
Bout #2: Satish Jha vs Jimmy Ambriz
Bout #3: Lakwinder Sekhon vs Madura Rathnayake
Bout #4: Mohd Shahid vs Mayura Dissanayake
Bout #5: Chaitanya Gavali vs Tiran Thakshala
Bout #6: Nell Natasadu vs Travis Bell
Bout #7: Lena Ovchynnikova vs Sanja Sucevic
Bout #8: Bob Sapp vs James Thompson
The event features a few veterans of the sport such as DEEP vet and former UFC fighter Xavier Pouve-Fakiam, Pride FC and DREAM vet Bob Sapp, and Pride FC and EliteXC vet James Thompson.
Also featured are fighters who have been around on the smaller circuits who don’t get as much coverage or haven’t got the prettiest of records, such as Joey Guel and Jimmy Ambriz.
And of course, the card features mostly new mixed martial artists such as Satish Jha, who possesses an amateur record (according to SFL’s website) of 3-0, and Lakwinder Sekhon who possesses a professional record (also according to SFL’s website) of 2-0. Also, bout #7 features the only women’s bout of the event. Sanja Sucevic possesses a record of 2 – 1, while Lena Ovchynnikova stands at 8 – 0 (according to Sherdog.com).
I honestly do not know what to expect from the event. There is always the possibility with any fight to result in fireworks. However, most of the fights could possibly end up looking more like an amateur event than a professional one, but I hope I am proved very, very wrong. While SFL is over-the-top, over-hyped, and a little cheesy, they have the potential to put on stellar events and launch some good careers for mixed martial artists. Who knows, they might even become a top-tier MMA promotion one day soon if everything falls perfectly into place.
So this weekend sit back and enjoy the sounds of internationally-acclaimed performers, and hopefully some exciting fights. Catch all the action this weekend at youtube.com/SFL for free.
