Malaysian Fighting Championship – MFC 4 Held at Overtime @River City, Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur

Part 1
We arrived at Overtime at 8:30pm some thirty minutes before the event start time, and amazingly for a Malaysian event the crowd were turning up early! And there were plenty of people milling around outside and many more already buzzing inside.
Of course it helps that the event is held in a bar but it’s more than that people are genuinely excited for a chance to watch some MMA fighting in KL.
After a little issue getting into the venue which was soon sorted out by the wonderful Aunty Connie, we were in and immediately bumping into lots of people we have had the pleasure of meeting since we started this web site such a short time ago. That includes fighters, gym owners and fans of the sport and yes even begrudgingly fellow blogger types :-) .
We were seated by the cage (It’s VIP all the way for the boys of MMAnewsAsia) and at around 9:00pm as promised the introductions began.

Muayfit International are the team behind this event
Official Fightwear of MFC is Aggression a new Malaysian brand that looked pretty dam cool!
Referees are Arnuad “Le Game” Lepoint and Eric “Le Natural” Kelly (URCC and ONE FC)
Judges are – Dorian Price (Ex UFC – TUF Star) – Boyd Clarke (Owner of Phuket Top Team) and Vegas Chow
Next the fighters are introduced:
Everybody is brought in to the ring one by one until the ring is full of muscle and tattoos and then Arnaud Lepont gives a rules run down to the fighters.
At 9:20pm and we are ready to fight.
The fights will be 3 x 4 minute rounds.
First up it’s
Sam “Da Man” Chan (Titan’s MMA) Vs Mohd “Abu Sami” Sami (Bantanweight bout)
I have seen Sam Chan fight before and I know what a tough guy he is so I am excited to see him in action again as he is a talented young fighter. I do know that he has been battling injury so I hope he is fit.
A big cheer and chants of Sami, Sami, Sami and the crowd are very excited, Sami obviously has a lot of fans here.
The fight starts the fighters touch gloves, Sami comes out with a front kick, Chan replies with a jumping front kick of his own and it’s contacted solidly and Sami backs up. Chan fires a right hand and contacts, Sami swings a kick, but Chan catches it and sweeps putting Sami down.
He let’s him get up and Chan is in command. Chan fires a right and a left and he goes in for the take down and Sami stops it putting in an attempted standing guillotine, he lands some shots to chans body and then puts some good knees into the solar plexus, Chan goes down and he’s taking shots, Sami is in control and Chan is getting hit with plenty of shots, but, he gives some back and they are standing up again meeting in the centre of the cage.
Chan tries a head kick and just misses, Sami lands a solid right hand on Chan’s jaw, it’s still fairly even. Chan throws a leg kick, Sami tries and misses with a front kick, then just misses with a right hand. Chan again tries for the take down but Sami defends it well and he has Chan in a headlock and is firing knees into him. They go to the ground, Chan with his back against the cage, Sami mounts him and is in half guard, they grapple for position and Chan takes a few more punches, Sami transitions nicely into side control but Chan goes for the armbar, he misses and spins around.
He’s back into guard, Chan has half butterfly guard and then Chan is back with a full guard, Sami working inside it. He postures up but Chan pulls him down and again goes for the arm bar and then a struggle begins, it appears that Sami is defending it with his other arm to stop Chan from sinking it in deep. He is working on it and patiently trying to get it  free, finally Chan get’s the arm extended and he get’s it in really tight and extended that looks bad and it obviously is as the Ref calls a halt before really serious damage is done at 3:30 of the first round.
Sam Chan win’s via armbar in a very good  and even match.
Sam Chan did a very nice job once he saw the opening and he worked for around 30 seconds to complete the move.
This will be a controversial decision, I am sure but here’s the deal. Sam Chan had the arm bar in solidly, Sami was not getting out any day soon with his arm intact and all Sam Chan would do is break or seriously damage the arm.
The fact that a fighter at this level is prepared to let that happen to himself at this level is plainly silly. A good call by Arnaud Lepont.
