Just For Fun UFC 141 – Predictions

Just For Fun UFC 141 – Predictions

Published on December 30, 2011 by  in Event
I know this website is supposed to be about MMA in Australasia and UFC 141 is once again in the

World Capital of MMA Las Vegas

But it’s the end of a great year for MMA in Asia, the year when ONE FC arrived and many smaller organisations gained wider coverage because of it.
So I thought for fun we could go through the card for UFC 141 and make some predictions.
(Featherweight) Manny (The Anvil) Gamuryan 11-6-0 Vs Diego (The Gun) Nunes 16-2-0
I can only really see Nunes winning this, his two losses were both decisions including his last fight a loss to Kenny Florian. His experience should prove too much for Gamuryan who must be fighting for his UFC future coming off of a two fight losing streak.  Result: -
Nunes Wins by Unanimous Decision 29-28
(Welterweight) Matt Riddle 5-3-0 Vs Luis (Beicao) Ramos 19-7-0
Riddle has lost his last two fights via Unanimous Decision, he seems to have good stamina as many of his fights go all the way to the final bell. Ramos is coming off of a 40 second first round knockout loss and will be keen to put on a good show, I don’t think Riddle has that knockout power to threaten Ramos.
Fight Cancelled Due To Riddle Being Ill.
(Lightweight) Jacob (Christmas) Volkmann 13-2-0 Vs Efrain Escudero 18-3-0
This could be a great fight Volkmann has won his last four and Escudero his last two, both these men are putting good records on the line and it’s a tough fight to call. Volkmann has the more powerful hands but is very capable on the ground which is also Escudero’s domain. I am really finding this a hard fight to call. But I think Volkmann can take it.
Volkmann wins a dull fight, really dull by Unanimous Decision 29-28.

(Welterweight) Dong Hyum (Stun Gun) Kim 14-1-1 Vs Sean Pierson 11-5-0
Again a tough one to call, both fighters coming off of a loss. Kim has stand up power and a great engine giving him the ability to go the distance, but Pierson has the power to stop him, Kim has punching power and as Jake Ellenberger showed recently Pierson can be stopped, however Kim has not stopped anybody since his first UFC fight in 2008 when he beat Jason Tan in just 25 seconds. If it goes to the ground it’s Piersons without a doubt but you cannot overlook the quality of fighter that Kim has beaten recently. I think Pierson is capable of winning this but it will be an upset and I have to imagine Kim has too much experience at a higher level. Kim to Win.
Kim Wins Unanimous Decision 30-27
(Lightweight) Anthony (The Assassin) Njokuani 14-5-0 Vs Danny (Last Call) Castillo 12-4-0
I’m going with Castillo here, I don’t know why the favourite must be Njokuani and his heavy hands but I just have a feeling.
Castillo Wins By Split Decision
(Featherweight) Ross (The Real Deal) Pearson 12-5-0 Vs Junior Assuncao 13-4-0
Pearson is a Brit and therefore one of mine, however Assuncao has not tasted a loss for seven fights going back till August 2008. I can see the fight going the distance, but I am really struggling to call a winner. I’m going for Pearson.
Pearson Wins by Unanimous Decision
(Featherweight) Nam Pham 17-9-0 Vs Jim (The Kid)  Hettes 9-0-0
I like Pham ever since TUFF and then the fights with Leonard Garcia, Hettes is something of a submission expert, while Pham is a real boxer, this is one of those styles makes fights situations. If Hettes can survive Phams stand-up and get the fight to the ground then he has a real shot at this fight as Pham has been submitted six times already. I just am not sure that he can get Pham down without taking damage. I know he’s the underdog but I just feel Hettes can pull of a surprise win.
Wow nice fight by Hettes he wins by Unanimous Decision
(Light Heavyweight) Vladimir (The Janitor) Matyushenko 26-5-0 Vs Alexander (The Mauler) Gustafsson12-1-0
Matyushenko fresh off of his 20 second destruction of Jason Brilz at UFC 129 takes on Gustafsson who is on a three fight win streak. Matyushenko is a great fighter but I just think it’s the younger mans time, Matyushenko still has something to offer in MMA but, Gustafsson to win this battle.
Gustafsson vis TKO
(Welterweight) Jon Fitch 23-3-1 Vs Johny Hendricks 11-1-0
Fitch is seven fights unbeaten (including the draw with Penn) and apart from a loss to GSP back in August 2008 (UFC 87) you have to go back many, many wins to find his next loss in December 2002. Likewise Hendricks is a relative stranger to a loss with a defeat by Rick Story in December 2010 being his only blemish on a great record. This has fight of the night written all over it and I would expect it to go the distance and be a real war. I am taking Fitch but it may be a split decision.
Wow that was quick and my first wrong pick – it took just 12 seconds for Hendricks  KO
(Lightweight) Nate Diaz 14-7-0 Vs Donald (Cowboy) Cerrone 17-3-0
I cannot see past Cerrone with this fight, his recent losses to Ben Henderson aside he is on a great run. I know Diaz is a tremendous fighter but I just think Cerrone has the wind behind him right now.
Diaz totally owned Cerrone who had no idea what to do Unanimous Decision for Diaz
(Heavyweight) Brock Lesnar 5-2-0 Vs Alistair (Demolition Man) Overeem 35-11-0
I am probably on the wrong end of this fight, but I dont like Lesnar and his antics so I want Overeem to win. It may be too late in Overeems career and his cardio will let him down if the fight goes deep, but I just hope he has the skills to beat Lesnar, who has shown that he really does not know how to react once he gets a few big thumps to the face. So Overeem to win (more in hope than expectation).
And that went beautifully Overeem destr0yed Lesnar. Overeem by TKO
As I said at the beginning, it’s all a bit of fun, feel free to add your thoughts.
