The big man (as in tall!) will be fighting against a Brazilian in Brazil this weekend at the UFC Fight Night 39 as Will faces Diego Bradao. So he won't get any love from the fans.

Will Chope is a good friend of us here ever since the early days of the MMA News Asia Podcast. And recently we met again as he came to REPS Fitness in Johor to roll before his first UFC fight in Singapore.

He remains one of the hardest working most humble and fun guys we know and he has trained at a good number of the gyms that we talk about here at MMA News Digest making friends wherever he goes.

Kenny Yap is no stranger to the beautiful sport of MMA -- not only is he the man behind Twisted Fight Gear, but he is also a well-rounded martial artist training in one of the best MMA gyms in Malaysia. Oh, and he also just happens to be the Malaysian Invasion MMA Flyweight Champion, meaning he is a certified badass. His opponent however, is by no means a chump.

Kamuraysan Perumal, also known as "The Swift", lived up to his nickname when he submitted his opponent by RNC back at Ultimate Beatdown 12 in 16 seconds, not wasting any time in getting the job done. He dropped the jaws of everyone in attendance, and will be looking to drop the MIMMA flyweight champions jaw as well.

Malik, a Jordanian monster based out of Malaysia, training out of Malacca MMA is always ready to look for the finish. He burst onto the scene finishing his opponent back at MFC6 in brutal fashion. He's ready to make an impression in the Ultimate Beatdown cage, but will be up against an Irish phenom.

Fighting out of one of the best MMA gyms in Asia, Keith is ready to bounce back after coming to a draw in a back-and-forth battle against one of Malaysia's finest in Hanif Zainal. Mehrdad Malekizadeh vs Sabastion Cole

Boy oh boy, have we got a thriller for you! KSL Ultimate Beatdown  brings you one hell of a match-up in an international bout... "The Conqueror" takes on the Iranian Muay Thai Monster.

Sabastion "The Conqueror" Cole is a fan-favorite amongst Ultimate Beatdown fans, and is back in the cage again to put on a beating. Not even old enough to drink, this young beast-of-a-fighter has a wicked ground game and crafty stand-up skills. In his last fight, he demolished a national Judo competitor by working some straight punches, and wasted no time in using the cage to his advantage in getting his opponents back, and securing the rear naked choke. The crowd went wild, and his opponent hung his head in defeat. But will his next opponent let him off that easy?

Mehrdad Malekizadeh is an Iranian Muay Thai fighter, rumored to have nearly 100 fights under his belt. Vicious elbows, lightning-fast combos and an iron-will best describes this experienced striker. Word on the street is that he broke an astonishing 33 baseball bats with shin kicks one day out of anger... that's pretty badass (however, detractors say the bats were made in China...). He'll be looking to make a BIG statement in the Ultimate Beatdown cage, and test the chin of the young English mixed martial artist.

His opponent, however, is no stranger; Lee will be facing a familiar face, someone he has met on the mats over and over again.

Shane Suzuki is a top competitor in the martial art in the region, having competed at an international level. A BJJ prodigy, Suzuki will be looking to make a statement in the Ultimate Beatdown cage and bring home the FINAL BJJ bragging rights to his stable, Fight G.

Both men have competed against each other several times, and each time the contested bouts were so even, that they had to do the tango over and over again in what is quickly becoming one of the most high-profile BJJ rivalries in this region.

Garie Tang is a hot tempered, aggressive flyweight fighting out of Impact MMA. He wasted no time in wrecking through his last opponent, finding an early submission in the first round. Pranav Mantri is... well, he's scary. He is terrifying. He is what legends and folklore are made of, only he is real and ready to tear it up. Zakhir "The Bullkiller" is definitely no stranger to the fight game, having stepped in the cage against ONE FC fighter/Ultimate Beatdown CEO Melvin Yeoh, and against MIMMA champion Kenny Yap. His biggest win came against ONE FC fighter Mohd Fouzein back at F3, and recently defeated Haziq Sulaiman via vicious TKO at Ultimate Beatdown 12. This self-proclaimed Bullkiller is a monster, but will he be able to overcome the will of "Spidey"?

Mohd Firdaus, aka "Spidey", is known for being "tough and rough", hailing from Kuantan where Muay Thai beasts are born and bred. He trains his shins by kicking coconut trees, and there are rumors going around that 100% of the time, he beats those trees by knockout... we can't make this stuff up, people.

Ultimate Beatdown 13 November 30th Johor Bahru - The Road To Glory

Just a short while ago, Ultimate Beatdown 8 in fact, this event had to make do with taking place in a gym where 60 people would pack around the cage to watch their local fighters have a go.

Then the first tentative steps outside led UB to D'Bali where for the first event some 300 fans bought tickets. The next event it was more like 400. 

Then came another move to Danga Bay above Cheers Bar (Our Hosts) the first event we had around 550 fans and the last over 750 very excitable fans as the fighters from many different countries put on a great show.

The time is right to make a big step up and KSL City Mall kindly offered Ultimate Beatdown a home.

Ultimate Beatdown 13 will be a fully international event with MMA fighters from many areas around the globe.

What we need is for the people of Johor to step up and support this exciting event.

Four years ago when I turned up to my first Ultimate Beatdown held in a Gym in the Mount Austen area of Johor Bahru, I remember enjoying the great match-ups but being disappointed because the gym could not hold more than around 50 people. I remember wondering if this event would attract a crowd if it was held in a bigger venue. The general thought was that less than 200 people would turn up and pay on the door.

Well of course since then we have seen the growth of ONE FC and along with it Ultimate Beatdown, with the recent addition of MIMMA it seems that MMA in Malaysia has stepped up another level and Ultimate Beatdown is the perfect proof of that, as for Ultimate Beatdown 12 some 550 screaming fans of MMA converged on Johor's fabled Danga Bay area to witness the second event above Cheers Bar the almost perfect setting for MMA. By the waterside on the edge of Malaysia, so close to Singapore that they could surely hear the cheers everytime a Malaysian fighter defeated a neighbour from across the water.

This show held 8 events in the gym and this was just the fourth outside each one attracting a bigger and better crowd.

The only real issue I had apart from the occasional mis-match, which will always happen at this level due to late pull-pouts and people who over or understate their ability, worse than that must be the decision to insert Grappling into the middle of the event. Before it started the crowd were very loud and excited and beyond the ladies fight with Amanda Loo from Impact showing just how much her game has improved since her trip to Rio where she trained daily with top level athletes.  The rest of the fights I am afraid while they may have been nice technical affairs they did kill the crowds enthusiasm as they crawled towards a draw - almost a full 30 minutes of drawn fights is not what a crowd wants to see.
These fights deserve a platform but maybe use them as the warm up bouts as the crowd are assembling, those fans who are interested in the more technical aspects of grappling would surely find themselves cage side and the casual fan would not be lost into the night.

I also think that this event does not need ring girls. The cage is too small and the girls really don't look like they are enjoying themselves much and all they did was make the time between rounds longer.

The event itself was much better organised than previous ones, with the cage area kept clear of people and the fights happening in quick succession.

The commentary team of  Seth Borges and Fletch were entertaining.

Overall Chian Yik Malaysia's MMA pioneer, ONE FC warrior and owner of Ultimate MMA must be very proud of what he has achieved with Ultimate Beatdown.
