KSL Ultimate Beatdown 13, Johor Bahru - Results

KSL Ultimate Beatdown 13 - KSL City Mall, Johor Bahru, November 30th 2013.

Thanks and a quick round-up

It was a fun night, our first in a new bigger venue and although we had some technical issues I think most people had a good time. I think we fell short of my target of 1000 people but it was a big ask considering 2 years ago this event was 50 people in a gym and the last event hit 750 which in itself was a big jump from the previous event. So a solid event with a solid crowd. We will continue to grow and improve. Our new cage performed well and I think most people enjoyed themselves.

Thanks especially to our great sponsors: Eight Lido Johor's Best Bar by Far. REPS Fitness, Johor's Top All Purpose Gym for Getting Fit and Fight Training. Arty Party, Johor's premier Art market and chairty event organiser. Muscle Factory Johor's leading supplement supplier. Potosan Corner Kuala Lumpur's premier MMA equipment supplier. What's Going On In Johor Bahru (WGOIJB) the leadng facebook resource for those living in or visiting Johor. Ultimate MMA Academy Johor's best Fighters gym. My Teksi the best and safest way to get around - Download the My Teksi app and see the benefits of this great way to get around. No more dodgy driver who wont use the meter or who take you for a longer journey. My Teksi tells you where you taxi is, who the driver is and his contact number, the cab number and the approximate price. It's a great system.
And a massive thank you to KSL City Mall Johor for a great venue and a great support team who made this possible.

Plus of course all the volunteers who really made this possible. Working all day and then coming and working until the early hours of the morning. Great job guys, you rock.

Thanks also to all the gyms who supported the event and brought fans and fighters.
It was great to see Heath Sims and the Evolve Gym who for the first time ever supported our event with their fighters.
Everfitness, Sparta Singapore, Monarchy MMA, Grasio, Elitez, BJJ Singapore, Fight G, Ultimate MMA Academy, HIt, Leverage MMA, Madman, MuayFit, Sparta Singapore, Team Thoo, REPS Fitness, Elitez, Melaka MMA, Penang Top Team, Impact MMA, Evolution MMA, Karabaw, SOS,

Thanks also to ONE FC supremo Vicotr Cui who came along and sparkled with his beautiful wife.
Also to ONE FC fighter Gianni Subba thanks for coming along and supporting the show.

Also big thanks to a big man - Matt Pellino emcee extraordinaire. Another great job.

Thanks to FS Cheng and his team and ONE FC fighter and the founder of Ultimate Beatdown Melvin Yeo for putting on a great show.

My Three Fights of The Night:

Raymon Beh vs Amie Che Yun - Raymen was lacking in both height and reach but as he has shown in previous events he never lacks in heart. For every 5 shots he threw probably four were misses as the height of his opponent and his longer arms proved a tough nut to crack and his opponent was having plenty of success of his own. But Raymen just kept coming and coming and by the end of round 2 his opponent was looking decidedly ragged, In round 3 Raymen just kept coming like a steam train and Yun ground to a halt as the punches really took their toll. He was finished and Raymen kep landing blows until at 1:38 of the third round the ref had to step in a stop it.

Sabastian Cole vs Mehrdad Malekizadeh

Sure I'm biased he is after all my Son, but I have watched him from when he first started training three years ago at the Ultimate MMA Academy improve and become more dedicated, he spent two months at Team Quest in Chiang Mai this year and his game has improved. He has a long way to go but recently I have been lucky enough to watch him roll with some high levels guys and I can see where he has to improve, but I can also see how much he has improved.
Mehrdad is a muay thai fighter who has spent a good deal of time at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket. He got in Sabastians face as the lined up and he leaned back against the fence full of confidence as the fighters were announced. And that confidence looked well placed as a solid opening punch caught Sabastian right from the off. But and this is the difference, he just kept to his plan and covered up taking the opening as soon as it presented itself taking Mehrdad down to the ground around 6 seconds in and from there it was one way traffic as every-time Mehrdad attempted to escape or change position the trapped tightened until at 2:17 he had to tap. Sabastian is still only 17 so has a great deal more time to improve. But for now. I, his Dad and fiercest critic is very pleased with his progress he is very dedicated and it's starting to show.

Kenny Yap  vs Kumarasyan Perumal

Yap is a highly rated Malaysian fighter and present MIMMA Flyweight Champion and Kumarasyan is a 1-0 fighter from Singapore who at the last Ultimate Beatdown took just 16 seconds to become a fans favorite with a RNC victory over a fellow Singaporean.
Yap came in bursting with confidence and was I am sure most peoples favorite for this bout. I had seen Kumar rolling with noted BJJ grappler Shane Suzuki at REPS Gym after the UB press conference and I knew he had a lot of skill and long limbs. He was calm and collected and he did not let any aura of confidence that Kenny Yap may have had put him off of his game and he soon set about dismantling the Malaysian champion with superb strikes and non stop aggression that had Yap on the back foot until at 3:05 of round 1 the ref had to step in and save Yap from further damage. A superb showing from Kumarasyan who must be one to watch in the Asian scene. A real up and coming prospect.

Preview's of some of the event bouts:

Ladies and gentleman, KSL Ultimate Beatdown brings you THE greatest main-event in the HISTORY of Ultimate Beatdown: "The Vanilla Gorilla" takes on "The Minion".

"Jun Minion", a Filipino monster, wants to take Malaysia by storm and wreck the division into pieces, walking into the sunset with that beautiful belt strapped around his waist. He made his debut by absolutely destroying Putera Rudy by putting on a beatdown, and forcing the tapout via rear-naked choke. The crowd was in shock, his opponents fans were horrified, and the Filipino donned a big, evil smile on his face. But is he ready for what's next, in the opening rounds of the Road To Glory tournament? Is he ready for the lean-mean, Nutella-eating machine? Is he ready for... "The Vanilla Gorilla"?

Brad "The Vanilla Gorilla" Robinson is no stranger to the MMA scene in Asia. He is a coach, student, fighter, business owner, weight-loss guru, cheat-day hero, TV personality...basically, he's the perfect catch. Known for working alongside Oli Pettigrew on TV, and running his gym Ritual, he is also a mixed martial arts monster. He made his professional MMA debut against ONE FC fighter and top Malaysian welterweight Nik Harris, getting his hand raised after a grueling three-round affair. He has great wrestling, heavy hands, and you can be sure his team Fight G will be making sure he comes ready for war.

Will the "Minion" be able to impose his will once again? Or will "The Vanilla Gorilla" finish him off like a Nutella-spread sandwich with chocolate milk and Oreos on a glorious Saturday cheat-night? Find out LIVE at the KSL City & Hotel Resort, November 30th, at Ultimate Beatdown: Road To Glory

KSL Ultimate Beatdown 13 brings you a thrilling match-up going down at Ultimate Beatdown 13, between Kenny Yap and Kumaraysan Perumal.

Kenny Yap is no stranger to the beautiful sport of MMA -- not only is he the man behind Twisted Fight Gear, but he is also a well-rounded martial artist training in one of the best MMA gyms in Malaysia. Oh, and he also just happens to be the Malaysian Invasion MMA Flyweight Champion, meaning he is a certified badass. His opponent however, is by no means a chump.

Kamuraysan Perumal, also known as "The Swift", lived up to his nickname when he submitted his opponent by RNC back at Ultimate Beatdown 12 in 16 seconds, not wasting any time in getting the job done. He dropped the jaws of everyone in attendance, and will be looking to drop the MIMMA flyweight champions jaw as well.

Yap vs Perumal is going down at Ultimate Beatdown 13: Road To Glory, to kick off the quarterfinals of the flyweight tournament. Be sure to catch the fight live at the KSL City & Hotel Resort JB, on the 30th of November!

Keith Alden vs Malik Krieshan

Ultimate Beatdown 13: Road to Glory presents you Ireland vs Jordan in this explosive match-up to kick off the featherweight quarter-finals.

Malik, a Jordanian monster based out of Malaysia, training out of Malacca MMA is always ready to look for the finish. He burst onto the scene finishing his opponent back at MFC6 in brutal fashion. He's ready to make an impression in the Ultimate Beatdown cage, but will be up against an Irish phenom.

Fighting out of one of the best MMA gyms in Asia, Keith is ready to bounce back after coming to a draw in a back-and-forth battle against one of Malaysia's finest in Hanif Zainal. Keith, the Irish Terminator, wants this belt badly and is ready to bask in all it's glory within the Ultimate Beatdown cage.

Get ready for this crazy match-up between Ireland and Jordan in what will be an absolute thriller, come November 30th live in KSL City & Resort Hotel @ Ultimate Beatdown 13

Mehrdad Malekizadeh vs Sabastion Cole

Boy oh boy, have we got a thriller for you! KSL Ultimate Beatdown  brings you one hell of a match-up in an international bout... "The Conqueror" takes on the Iranian Muay Thai Monster.

Sabastion "The Conqueror" Cole is a fan-favorite amongst Ultimate Beatdown fans, and is back in the cage again to put on a beating. Not even old enough to drink, this young beast-of-a-fighter has a wicked ground game and crafty stand-up skills. In his last fight, he demolished a national Judo competitor by working some straight punches, and wasted no time in using the cage to his advantage in getting his opponents back, and securing the rear naked choke. The crowd went wild, and his opponent hung his head in defeat. But will his next opponent let him off that easy?

Mehrdad Malekizadeh is an Iranian Muay Thai fighter, rumored to have nearly 100 fights under his belt. Vicious elbows, lightning-fast combos and an iron-will best describes this experienced striker. Word on the street is that he broke an astonishing 33 baseball bats with shin kicks one day out of anger... that's pretty badass (however, detractors say the bats were made in China...). He'll be looking to make a BIG statement in the Ultimate Beatdown cage, and test the chin of the young English mixed martial artist.

Will Sabastion Cole's mixed martial arts experience be enough to maul his opponent, or will Mehrdad Malekizadeh's Muay Thai skills prove to be too much for him? Find out LIVE at the KSL City & Hotel Resort on the 30th of November at Ultimate Beatdown 13: Road to Glory

KSL Ultimate Beatdown  brings you a sweet, sweet match-up for our Sub-Zero main event -- Ian Lee vs Shane Suzuki.

Ian Lee is one of THE best BJJ competitors in the country. Training under the legendary BJJ whiz Professor Escobar from Leverage Combat Academy, Lee has shown himself to be a craftsman of the popular art of submissions. His opponent, however, is no stranger; Lee will be facing a familiar face, someone he has met on the mats over and over again.

Shane Suzuki is a top competitor in the martial art in the region, having competed at an international level. A BJJ prodigy, Suzuki will be looking to make a statement in the Ultimate Beatdown cage and bring home the FINAL BJJ bragging rights to his stable, Fight G.

Both men have competed against each other several times, and each time the contested bouts were so even, that they had to do the tango over and over again in what is quickly becoming one of the most high-profile BJJ rivalries in this region.

Will Ian Lee's BJJ wizardry show in this match-up, or will Shane Suzuki prove to be on another level in this submissions-only bout? Find out LIVE on the 30th of November at KSL City & Hotel Resort, at Ultimate Beatdown 13: Road to Glory

Garie Tang vs Prnav Mantri

Folks, KSl Ultimate Beatdown brings you a match-up so legendary, that your great grandchildren will still be talking about it (assuming the aliens haven't taken over and banned MMA... that would suck.)

Garie Tang is a hot tempered, aggressive flyweight fighting out of Impact MMA. He wasted no time in wrecking through his last opponent, finding an early submission in the first round. Lean and mean, this fighter is keen on walking through his upcoming opponent but alas! Can he do so? His opponent is no slice of pie...

Pranav Mantri is... well, he's scary. He is terrifying. He is what legends and folklore are made of, only he is real and ready to tear it up. A takedown artist, Pranav loves to slam his opponents to the ground hard, much like he does in training with the punching bags. A little bird told us the other day that the gym had to stop him from slamming training bags... 'cause he has ruined over FIFTY of them. We're telling you... he is a legend.

Will Garie's aggressiveness and ability to overpower his opponents work this time around? Or will Pranav live up to the legendary story, and break Garie like a one of the many punching bags? Find out LIVE at KSL City & Hotel Resort on the 30th of November, at Ultimate Beatdown 13: Road to Glory

Okay folks, KSL Ultimate Beatdown brings you another killer match-up, between Sanjivan and the man known only as "The DevilBald."

Sanjivan last fought at Ultimate Beatdown 12 and boy oh boy did he make a statement! A takedown artist, he got the durable Ejam White to the floor, and pulverized his way to a TKO victory. He loves to embrace the grind, and smash his opponents until they remember his name. But will he be able to do so against someone so evil, so sinister, that his name sounds like something out of an exorcism flick?

"The DevilBald" trains out of MuayFit where monsters are known to be manufactured, but this beast-of-a-man is a monster that knows no boundaries. He last fought at MFC and swarmed his opponent with all his might and secured a vicious, breathtaking victory (almost literally). This man is so vicious, so evil, so terrifying, that it was so difficult to find him an opponent but alas! Sanjivan has stepped up and is willing to tame the beast... or at least try to.

Catch Sanjivan vs "The DevilBald" LIVE on November 30th at the KSL City & Hotel Resort @ Ultimate Beatdown 13: Road To Glory

KSL Ultimate Beatdown brings you what MMA was originally all about -- different martial artists fighting their art against another for martial arts supremacy; we bring you Silat vs Karate.

Shaharin, or "The Beast", is just that -- a beast. Cliche? Please -- implementing Silat into MMA was almost unheard of until this man came around town and started raising hell. Training at Grasio MMA, lead by former Silat World Champion Sheik Alau'ddin, "The Beast" is a silent assassin of sort, being able to sneak up from behind and choke you out before you even know what's going on. But can he prove Silat to be effective not only in pro MMA, but against the feared art of Karate?

Rayner "King Karabau" is an absolute legend in the mixed martial arts scene -- donning a black belt in Karate, he is known to couple it with aggressiveness and high levels of insanity. A former SEA Games medalist (he got bored of the rules and wanted to get into MMA, where the real action lies), his nickname "King Kerabau" plays a significant role in his style -- if you mess with the bull, you get the horns!

Will Silat in pro MMA prove to be effective, or will Karate once again prove its effectiveness in the glorious cage of mixed martial arts? Find out LIVE on November 30th @ KSL City & Hotel Resort at Ultimate Beatdown 13: Road to Glory!

KSL Ultimate Beatdown  brings you the "Bullkiller" vs "Spidey" match-up in the opening rounds of the Road To Glory Flyweight Tournament.

Zakhir "The Bullkiller" is definitely no stranger to the fight game, having stepped in the cage against ONE FC fighter/Ultimate Beatdown CEO Melvin Yeoh, and against MIMMA champion Kenny Yap. His biggest win came against ONE FC fighter Mohd Fouzein back at F3, and recently defeated Haziq Sulaiman via vicious TKO at Ultimate Beatdown 12. This self-proclaimed Bullkiller is a monster, but will he be able to overcome the will of "Spidey"?

Mohd Firdaus, aka "Spidey", is known for being "tough and rough", hailing from Kuantan where Muay Thai beasts are born and bred. He trains his shins by kicking coconut trees, and there are rumors going around that 100% of the time, he beats those trees by knockout... we can't make this stuff up, people.

Catch "The Bullkiller" vs "The Spidey" LIVE on November 30th @ the KSL City & Hotel Resort, at Ultimate Beatdown 13: Road To Glory
