Jon Tuck – From Upset Knockouts to UFC

         We here at Rear Naked News enjoy talking about upcoming fighters, and in the past we have covered up and coming Malaysian fighter Nik “The Bloodhound” Harris, French  BJJ specialist Luc “The Doberman” Rousseau, and French phenom Arnaud “The Game” Lepont.

         Today, we take a look at Jon Tuck and what makes his UFC debut so intriguing.

It took Jon Tuck less than 10 seconds to put away Eduard Folayang – a man who was already the URCC Welterweight champion and would go on to become the Martial Combat Superfight Lightweight winner, and a top contender and superstar in ONE Fighting Championship.

        

Jon Tuck will be facing Zhang Tiequan at UFC on Fuel TV 6 (aka UFC Macao) for his debut with the world’s most prestigious mixed martial arts promotion. His chance at UFC-stardom came as a result of impressing the UFC brass after he lost a fight at the beginning of The Ultimate Fighter 15, despite breaking a toe during the fight.

        

Standing at 5’ 10” tall and weighing in at 155 pounds, Tuck is undefeated in his MMA career with six wins and no losses and has never gone past the first round. Shortly after his knockout victory over Folayang, he won gold at Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Cup.

        

Well-versed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and carrying heavy, heavy hands, he was three wins by KO/TKO and three by submission (all rear naked chokes). If his knockout victory over Folayang wasn’t vicious enough, he topped it off with a victory over Tristan Arenal by bringing him to the ground and knocking him unconscious with what is known as “ground and pound”.

Training out of The Arena based in San Diego, he has a ton of solid coaches and teammates behind him to prepare him for the most important fight of his life at this point in his career. First impressions mean everything, and he will certainly be looking to impress Dana White and the less-than-timid fans.

A lot of questions surround his upcoming fight against Tiequan – what’s his gas tank like? Is he all hype? How good is his submission defense? He will get a chance to answer all these questions come November 10, 2012.

I know we are late with this news and for that I apologise, we have had house guests and I have been very busy.

Anyway enough about me, amazing news from PXC as yet another of their top fighters is plucked by the biggest MMA organisation in the world.

PXC is proving to be a tremendous opportunity for the best up and coming fighters. Based in Guam and having a series of successful sold out shows in both Guam and the Philippines it would appear the quality of their fighters is attracting a lot of attention.

PXC LIGHTWEIGHT JON TUCK SIGNED BY THE UFC FOR MAIN CARD IN MACAU

Pacific X-treme Combat (PXC), the premier MMA organization in the Asia-Pacific region, is proud to support yet another PXC Fighter making the move to The UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), the world’s top MMA organization.

PXC Lightweight star, Jon Tuck, has been signed by The UFC and will make his debut on November 10thin Macau on the main card against China’s Tiequan Zhang. Tuck trains with Universal Alliance and SPIKE22/Ground Fu in Guam, as well as The Arena in San Diego, and has made a name for himself as an Abu Dhabi Champion, as well as featured fighter on The Ultimate Fighter reality show earlier this year.

Tuck has competed in PXC events since 2007, with a professional record of 6 wins with no losses. In 2009, Tuck recorded a win against Filipino MMA fighter, Edward Folayang, with a vicious knock-out in less than 10 seconds. Although battling several minor injuries over the last few months, Tuck showcased his knock-out power with his performance against up and coming Filipino-American fighter, Tristan Arenal (5-2), last November in PXC-28, which was nationally televised in the Philippines. According to PXC VP, Eli Monge, “Jon has all-around MMA skills that make him a special fighter. He can beat you so many ways!”

Fans were recently disappointed when Jon Tuck was forced to pull out of a title fight against PXC Lightweight Champ, Harris Sarmiento, set for September 1st in PXC-33 in Manila, Philippines. In November, Tuck will be facing UFC fighter, “The Mongolian Wolf” Tiequan Zhang (1-2 in UFC bouts, 18-3 overall), and will represent his island home of Guam as the first UFC fighter hailing from the US Territory located a short 3 hour flight from China.

Jon Tuck joins Hyun Gyu Lim from South Korea as the most recent PXC fighters to be signed by The UFC. PXC has featured UFC talent including Dan Severn, Jeremy Horn, Roy Nelson, Rich Clementi and Eddie Yagin throughout its 33 professional events. PXC CEO, E.J. Calvo, stated, “Current PXC Fighters are certainly representative of the best MMA talent in Asia, including Guam’s Joe Taimanglo, Hawaii’s Harris Sarmiento, Crisanto Pitpitungue, Ale Cali, and Mark Striegl from the Philippines, and Filipino-Americans Tristan Arenal and Alvin Cacdac. PXC SIGNS UNDEFEATED FILIPINO MARK STRIEGL FOR SEPTEMBER 1st EVENT

Pacific X-treme Combat (PXC), the top MMA organization in the Philippines, continues to grow its roster of the best Filipino fighters announcing an exclusive multiple-fight deal with local MMA star, Mark Striegl. 

PXC Promoter & CEO, E.J. Calvo, stated, “Mark will be highlighted as one of our top Filipino talents putting his undefeated record on the line on nationwide television.” Calvo added, “We are happy to give Mark an opportunity to compete at the highest level of MMA in the Philippines and showcase his abilities. 

We will definitely test him with some of the best opponents in Asia!” Striegl is Filipino-American, and resides and trains in Baguio City, Philippines. Mark is undefeated as a professional, and has recorded wins in various shows across Asia, making a name for himself in Japan, Hong Kong and Macau, as well as in the Philippines. 

Striegl will make his PXC debut against Featherweight Robert Wusstig, a tough up and coming fighter from Guam. Wusstig is on a 2-fight win streak, including a championship victory in Trench Warz-15 against Shane Alvarez, the undefeated Featherweight from Saipan. Upon returning to PXC competition, Wustigg is looking to climb the PXC rankings and live up to his reputation as spoiler.

On Saturday, September 1st, PXC-33 will feature the best MMA fighters from the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific region, featuring Filipino MMA stars taking on fighters from the US, Guam, Japan and Korea. Unfortunately, due to a recent training injury, the much anticipated title fight between PXC Flyweight Champ Ale Cali and Erwin Tagle will be postponed. Cali suffered an injury to his face, and was not cleared to fight for 4 weeks.

This title fight is being discussed to headline PXC’s next big show in Manila.

Exciting Times in Philippines MMA

The Philippines is looking forward to a couple of big MMA events in the next few weeks. The first will be ONE FC – Pride of a Nation and then a day later it will be Pacific X-Treme Combats time to shine.

PXC have in a short period of time become a major player in the Philippines with a local TV audience reaches over high half a million viewers and it genuinely sells out it’s events.

The Event PXC 33 is going to be on September 1st 2012, at Ynares Sports Arena. Pasig City, Manila.

The Fight Card:

PXC Lightweight Title:

 Harris “The Hitman” Sarmiento (34-23) vs Jon “Super Saiyan” Tuck (6-0)

Sarmiento has a bucket load of experience starting his pro career right back in 2002.  Tuck on the other hand since 2007 has had just seven bouts all of which he won in the first round. His most famous win was over the URCC champion and present ONE FC fighter Eduard Folayang that took just 8 seconds. (Gorilla Warfare 3, 2009).

Flyweight Title Bout:

Ali “The Young Gun”  Cali (4-1) and Erwin Tagle (1-1-2)

Mark “Mugen” Striegl (10-0) vs Robert “The Real Deal” Wusstig (4-5)

Striegl is the newest addition to the PFC roster a very talented and experienced fighter with Legend, URCC, PRO and DARE bouts under his belt. He hoped to fight Mitch Chilson at ONE FC in Manila but he was ignored. ONE FC’s loss is most defiantly the PXC’s gain and having signed a three-fight deal he must have a chance at a featherweight title shot soon. He will certainly become a very big crowd favorite and he hopes to really make a name for himself amongst the Philippine public.

Leone is a Strikeforce and Bellator veteran and shows the higher level that PXC is aiming for.
