The Big Times Are A Coming!

Pacific X-Treme Combat are one of the few MMA organisations in Asia that succeeds in creating a stepping stone into the UFC.

The reason? They don't do hype or bullshit, what they do is find great up and coming local fighters and put them in solid match ups.

Those match ups get shown across the Philippines to a live TV audience that averages around a half a million people.
They also play to sold out arenas, so much so that they have had to find a bigger venue and this weekend they hold their first show in the famous SMART Araneta Coliseum.

The Philippines is already rightfully considered the hotbed of Asian MMA, with the URCC being the longest established organisation in Asia. PXC cements that status and both Organisations put of great shows.

So let's look at the card for the next PXC event: PXC 34

Bout 1:

Dario Banaro Jr (1-0-0) vs Ernesto Montilla (debut)

Bout 2:

Adrian Hillana (1-0-0) vs Tyrone Jones (1-1-0)

Bout 3:

Zebaztian Kadestam (2-0-0) vs Patrick Manicad (0-1-0)

Bout 4:

Isaiah Ordiz (1-0-0) vs Tristan Arenal (5-2-0)

Bout 5:

Russell Doane (8-0-0) vs Michinori Tanaka (5-0-0)

Bout 6:

Jerome Wanawan (3-0-0) vs Eugene Toquero (3-0-0)

Bout 7:

Guy Delumeau (16-7-3)  vs Dustine Kimura (8-0-0)

Bout 8:

Harris Sarmiento (35-23-0) vs Mark Striegl (11-0-0)

Main Event:

Ale Cali (4-1-0) vs Erwin Tagle (1-1-2)

As you can see the first four fights are basically the undercard with a range of well matched unproven fighters trying to make a name for themselves.

But from Bout 5: The quality moves up a notch.

Bout 5: Doane against Tanaka should be a great start to the main card as two unbeaten fighters will be doing all they can to keep there records clean. Tanaka is a Shooto veteren from Japan who will be hoping to make a name for himself in the PXC, but first he has to get past Doane and that is not going to be easy. Expect this one to go to the judges.

Bout 6: sees two 3-0 fighters take to the cage, Wanawan is a hard punching Philippine from Lakay MMA. Toquero a fellow Philippine fighter may have an even harder punch! This bout offers a bucketful of fireworks. I would be shocked if it get's to the judges, don't blink!

Bout 7: Delumeau has had an impressive record in Shooto and Pancrase but this is the Hawaiian's first bout in PXC. Kimura is a fellow countryman and is yet to face defeat in the cage. He is a submission expert and I expect these two to put on quite a show.

Bout 8: Sarmiento is one of the most experienced fighters around and to have amassed 58 fights in just ten years is quite amazing, his last five bouts have all been in the PXC and bar one decision loss they have all been wins. He comes up against one of the Philippines brightest up and coming stars in Striegl who has fought in Legend, DARE, PRO and the URCC and remains unbeaten. This promises to be a fascinating bout. My feeling is if Striegl wins this bout, he will be getting a title shot in the near future but beyond that he will make a big noise further afield as i am sure the UFC must be looking out for more local talent as they bring more shows to Asia.

Main Event: Title Fight

Cali has very powerful hands and will cause anybody in the flyweight division trouble. Tagle is going to need a lot of help to get out of this in one piece.


So that's it another exciting night is promised by the PXC team. Personally I think the Sarmiento vs Striegl fight is the de-facto main event and should be a human chess game at it's best.

Top Filipino Fighters Headline PXC 34

at SMART Araneta Coliseum - November 17th 2012

PXC, the region’s premier professional mixed martial arts promotion, has announced its biggest show to date to take place on November 17^th at the famous Araneta Coliseum in Manila, Philippines. 

Headlining the star-studded international fight card will be some of the best rising stars of MMA from the Philippines versus some of the best up-and-coming fighters from Hawaii, Guam, USA, & Japan. 

A long-awaited Title Fight between Erwin Tagle and the current PXC Flyweight Champion, Ale Cali, will be the Main Event. 

PXC-34 will also feature a Featherweight bout with veteran Harris Sarmiento taking on Mark Striegl, one of the top young MMA fighters in the Philippines, as well as a battle of undefeated Flyweights, as the explosive Jerome Wanawan takes on knock-out specialist Eugene Toquero. 

The event is expected to draw thousands of screaming MMA fans from all corners of the Philippines, and along with being broadcasted live nation-wide on AKTV via IBC13; PXC-34 will stream online for the world to experience as well!

Harris “The Hitman” Sarmiento (34-22), who also holds the PXC Lightweight Belt, is an extremely dangerous fighter at 145 pounds. He has fought at 4 different weight classes over his career against world-class fighters including Nick Diaz, Gilbert Melendes, and Max Holloway from the UFC & Strikeforce. 

His dominating performances in PXC over the last year put him back on the top of the rankings as one of the toughest pound-for-pound fighters in the region. Sarmiento resides and trains in Honolulu, Hawaii, with 808 Top Team, and is well-known as one of the best MMA fighters from the islands.

Sarmiento’s opponent, Mark “Mugen” Striegl, is a submission specialist who made his PXC debut with an impressive performance in September. Striegl is now 11-0, and trains with Fight Corps MMA in Baguio City. According to Striegl, “I'm very much looking forward to fighting Harris Sarmiento. Harris is a great fighter and this is going to be an explosive match-up. 

This is why I joined PXC, to fight guys that will drive me to be the best I can be.” After officiating his September bout in PXC-33, legendary MMA referee, Big John McCarthy, was quoted saying, “I wouldn’t be surprised if you saw Mark Striegl fighting in The UFC within a year.” 

Serious compliment from a serious MMA expert! Will this fight be a launching pad or a lesson for Striegl, or will Sarmiento prove that he deserves all the respect given to him, and perhaps another shot against some of the elite fighters of the world as a Featherweight?

Erwin Tagle is a local MMA star that has been instrumental in developing the sport in the Philippines. As head coach and trainer of Submission Sports Gym in Quezon City, Tagle has the support of his students and fans for this comeback to professional MMA. 

Since PXC launched in the Philippines, Tagle has been featured as a commentator and MMA expert on AKTV, but after witnessing Ale Cali’s performances defeating all 3 of his opponents on his way to winning the Flyweight Championship, Tagle decided to make his return to professional competition, and PXC match-makers immediately recognized his ability to be one of the top fighters from the Philippines, and gave him his title shot right away. 

“Erwin has paid his dues, and his reputation precedes him as a showman and excellent fighter. He absolutely deserves this opportunity, and we expect a great show,” said PXC VP/Match-Maker, Eli Monge.

Ale “The Young Gun” Cali has been one of the success stories of MMA in the Philippines. PXC’s Flyweight Champ was born to be a fighter. 

He started off as a boxer at the age of 10 and successfully won boxing gold medals for his city in Davao; 2002 and 2003 in the Mindanao Friendship Games in Cagayan de Oro City and Mati, Davao Oriental, respectively.

He also bagged several medals in the Abap National Youth Open Championships.

Faced with financial instabilities, Cali later on looked to make a bold move to Mixed Martial Arts. In 2008, he began training Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. 

However, he failed his MMA debut but it never slowed him down as he won his 4 succeeding fights, eventually becoming the PXC’s Undisputed Flyweight Champion.

He was set to face Philippine MMA Legend, Erwin Tagle last September 1 but was sidelined due to injuries. 

Now, in a couple of weeks, he will get a chance once more to face his toughest opponent to date. “I am nervous yet extremely excited to be in the PXC cage with one of our country’s best fighters, Erwin Tagle,” Cali exclaimed.  

The matchup between Wanawan and Toquero posts 2 undefeated Flyweights from 2 of the top gyms in the Philippines against each other. Wanawan represents Team Lakay for his second PXC bout, after putting on a show against Victor Torre in PXC-33, and Toquero, who trains alongside Erwin Tagle at Subsports, has displayed vicious elbow strikes during his first 3 knock-out performances in the PXC.

Exciting Times in Philippines MMA

The Philippines is looking forward to a couple of big MMA events in the next few weeks. The first will be ONE FC – Pride of a Nation and then a day later it will be Pacific X-Treme Combats time to shine.

PXC have in a short period of time become a major player in the Philippines with a local TV audience reaches over high half a million viewers and it genuinely sells out it’s events.

The Event PXC 33 is going to be on September 1st 2012, at Ynares Sports Arena. Pasig City, Manila.

The Fight Card:

PXC Lightweight Title:

 Harris “The Hitman” Sarmiento (34-23) vs Jon “Super Saiyan” Tuck (6-0)

Sarmiento has a bucket load of experience starting his pro career right back in 2002.  Tuck on the other hand since 2007 has had just seven bouts all of which he won in the first round. His most famous win was over the URCC champion and present ONE FC fighter Eduard Folayang that took just 8 seconds. (Gorilla Warfare 3, 2009).

Flyweight Title Bout:

Ali “The Young Gun”  Cali (4-1) and Erwin Tagle (1-1-2)

Rest of the Card:

Mark “Mugen” Striegl (10-0) vs Robert “The Real Deal” Wusstig (4-5)

Striegl is the newest addition to the PFC roster a very talented and experienced fighter with Legend, URCC, PRO and DARE bouts under his belt. He hoped to fight Mitch Chilson at ONE FC in Manila but he was ignored. ONE FC’s loss is most defiantly the PXC’s gain and having signed a three-fight deal he must have a chance at a featherweight title shot soon. He will certainly become a very big crowd favorite and he hopes to really make a name for himself amongst the Philippine public.

Leone is a Strikeforce and Bellator veteran and shows the higher level that PXC is aiming for.
