Shinichi Kojima is an MMA legend and one of the greatest flyweight fighters of all time. He was universally ranked as being the best in the world in his division for a long time. He was the Shooto Bantamweight Champion for three years and had to vacate the title only because of an injury. He is a tenacious and tough fighter who has only been stopped once. Aged 34, he knows he is still in his prime and with a decade of professional MMA experience, he is a true veteran of the sport whose only remaining challenge is to win a belt with the biggest MMA promotion in Asia. However, his opponent is no pushover, especially since he’ll be eyeing title contention too.

Andrew Leone is a Pan-Asian Grappling Champion and a tough American wrestler who has won numerous gold medals in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and submission grappling tournaments all over Asia. He has defeated several big names in Asia including Road FC Bantamweight Champion Kyung Ho Kong. He will be looking to utilize his wrestling ability and dominant ground game to finish the fight. Facing Kojima on 13 September will be the biggest test of his career to date.

Kotetsu “No Face” Boku is a fan favorite because of his desire to stand and trade with any opponent put in his way. He is the former ONE FC Lightweight World Champion and is the current Shooto Champion who made his MMA debut over a decade ago. Boku is a stand-up specialist who has never been knocked out. He has six KO wins to his name. Losing the coveted ONE FC Lightweight World Championship title at ONE FC: KINGS & CHAMPIONS has been an added motivation for him to get back to his winning formula on 13 September. His opponent will be ready to bang at ONE FC: KOJIMA VS LEONE.

Vuyisile Colossa is a Muay Thai world champion and one of the most dangerous and powerful strikers to transition into MMA. The South African is known as “The Cheetah” due to his speed. Coming from an impoverished background in Africa has given Colossa an indomitable will to win, which is why he never takes any foe lightly. Colossa is on a mission to show that Muay Thai is the most effective martial art and will seek to prove his point by punishing Boku when they meet inside the famed ONE FC cage.

American sensation Jake Butler is back in action and will be taking on his toughest test to date in Canadian striker James Kouame. Butler is a NCAA Division One wrestler who has been working tirelessly on his Muay Thai and BJJ since joining the renowned Evolve MMA fight team in Singapore. He was captain of the wrestling team at Princeton University and a wrestling champion who also finished third at the Junior National All American Championship. With some of the strongest wrestling credentials in Asia, he is probably the highest level wrestler to step into the ONE FC cage. At ONE FC: KINGS & CHAMPIONS, Butler demolished Saipan’s number one ranked Light Heavyweight quickly, proving why he is considered a top prospect in MMA the world over. His opponent Kouame isn’t fazed by the hype as he prepares to make his debut on the biggest stage in Asian MMA.

James Kouame is a Kyokushin Karate expert who has grown up competing in martial arts. He is coming off an impressive KO win in March. On 13 September he will be making his ONE FC debut in what is expected to be a fight for the ages. Kouame is the second Karate champion to step into the ONE FC cage after Nobutatsu Suzuki, who impressed in Manila on 31 May and defeated American boxer Phil Baroni. Kouame is now ready to follow in his footsteps as he looks to stop the American wrestler in his tracks with his trademark clinical striking.

Bellator - Spike TV Viewership Five Times Bigger Than MTV Figures

Bellator Viewership on Spike TV Still Growing

Bellator have recieved good news on the viewership figures on Spike TV for the Alexander Shlemenko vs Maiquel Falcao match. The fight for the vacant Bellator Middleweight Title recorded 807,000 viewers. This was a big step up of 14 percent from the previous week.

These numbers are some five times higher than they used to get on MTV 2.
These figures must be music to the ears of the three Phuket Top Team fighters who are signed for the organisation. JJ Ambrose and Brothers Anthony and Andrew Leone. Phuket Top Team is really making a big noise in the Asian MMA consistently attracting top quality MMA talent to train at it's facility.

Malaysian Fighting Championship – MFC 4 – Fights 2 to 7

Malaysian Fighting Championship – MFC 4 – Fights 2 to 7

Malaysian Fighting Championship – MFC 4 – The Review Continues with Fights 2

Fight 2: Vernon Apostil Vs Syed Hilman

The fight starts, A great right hand from Apostil straight from the off connects on Hilmans jaw, another swinging right hand, then a kick to the body, these two aren’t going through any feeling out process. Hilman attempts a windmill kick, they appear to huddle then Apostil attempts a take down, he has Hilman’s back and he’s going for the choke and he pulls Hilman down attempting a rear naked choke, Vernon is going for it, he has taken Hilmans back it’s looking bad for Hilman, It’s a unorthdox position but it’s tight and Hilman is out cold just like that! Choked out  by Vernon Apostil in 44 seconds of the first round.
Fight 3: Mohd “Secyen” Hazrul Vs Desmond “Mikro Cro Cop” Chui (Shaolin Gor Chor)
Chui starts with a nice solid leg kick, a punch and a kick and now he’s throwing some knees, he’s started off really well, another good leg kick, Hazrul is barely defending himself, turtling up, taking shots. Now, he starts firing back, pushing Chui against the cage.
Chui pushes him away, Hazrul is practically chasing him around the cage, they clinch and Hazrul is trying to put a standing guillotine on Chui. Chui get’s out and takes a shot on the way out and a head kick. Hazrul is coming in hard and Chui is taking punches and kicks, Hazrul tries a knee to the head, Chui blocks it. It’s an all action fight so far.
Hazrul appears to be tiring after that effort, both fighters are circling for a few seconds not engaging and then Chui throws a superb side kick, faking a head kick and turning it into the side kick, nice technique.
Chui on the offensive and back’s Hazrul into the cage with punches, Hazrul is taking punches and goes for a takedown and Chui is trying for a guillotine but it’s not in tight enough and he is really straining his arms attempting the choke, it’s not properly in, but he has got Chui down and mounts him and he starts to ground and pound, Chui starts to defend himself and Hazrul tries for a triangle and he starts to punch Chui in the face and with the triangle in Chui is trapped and soon taps. Mohd Hazrul wins in 3:05 of the First Round.

Fight 4: Will “The Kill” Chope (Muayfit) Vs Julian “The Ace” Lim (3S Gym)

This won’t last long, Will Chope is a URCC fighter his next fight is at DARE he is too good for Lim.
They come out, Lim throws a leg kick. Chope goes for an early take down and has Lim’s leg and he has Lim pushed up against the fence. Chope pulls both Lim’s leg’s out from underneath him and lands in side control, Lim’s head is against the cage, Chope tries to mount and does so without any effort and starts to lay ground and pound, Lim is struggling to get away but he is out classed and Chope continues to pound him until he taps after just 46 seconds of Round One – Will Chope wins to a Tap Out due to Ground and Pound.

Fight 5: Oni “The Demon” (Ultimate MMA Academy) Vs Mohd “The Bullkiller” Zakhir

Before this fight started I would not have bet on it going past the first round. Oni is a man who goes by many names. My Son just calls him coach. He is a BJJ specialist and he is up against a Muay Thai practitioner.
The fight starts, Mohd came out with a side kick, before they touched gloves a cheap shot. They exchange kicks, Oni lands a high kick, dodges one and then throws a kick, faking low and changing it to a high kick and boom! And the BJJ specialist showed the Muay Thai fighter how it should be done as he knocked him into next week. Game Over Oni Win’s in 25 seconds of Round One. It finished too dam fast for me to take any pictures!

Fight 6: Andrew Leone (Phuket Top Team) Vs Izrat (Ultimate MMA Academy)

Leone takes a couple of shots, then shoots for the take down taking side control and he quickly takes Izrats back get’s his hooks in and tries to put the rear naked choke in, he alternantes between hitting the face and body of Izrat until he has the opportunity to get the choke in and it’s all over: Andrew Leone Wins vis Rear Naked Choke in just 43 seconds of Round One.

Fight 7: Almas Abdullah Vs Tek Kai Wei

The crowd are very noisy at the start of this one, plenty of chanting. The atmosphere is very good here tonight.
Wei comes in with a Superman punch and they clinch, Abdullah has Wei backed against the fence, Wei is holding him tight, Abdullah is trying to take his back and then trying to get his legs, Wei manages to turn him round and trues for a leg trip. Abdullah manages to avoid everything and they disengage.
Wei throws a leg kick it barelly touches Abdullah, no damage done, Abdullah throws a one -two, mainly they are blocked. Abdullah is back against the fence, he throws a jab, they disengage again, Wei is looking for an uppercut, his stance is so obvious you wonder if he is trying to sell a dummy but No!, He throws a very well telegraphed but powerful upper cut that does not connect and they trade punches. Wei is getting the worst of it and he tries to take Abdullah down, he fails and Abdullah has him pushed up against the fence. Abdullah’s nose appears to be bleeding. They grapple against the fence, Abdullah throws some shots and he slips and then the ref stop’s the fight for the Doctor to check Abdulla’s nose. It’s an exciting fight so far.
The crowd is calling for the fight to continue but, sadly, the Doctor stops this fight and Tek Kai Wei win’s this fight due to Doctors Stoppage in 1:55 of Round One.
So at the half way point of the evening we still have not gone beyond the first round. While some of the fights were mismatches others were good bouts, we just need something to get beyond the first round.
The crowd are creating a great atmosphere.
So stay tuned for part 3 where we will carry on down the card.
