Strikeforce Coming to it’s Inevitable End
(article by the Coffee Boy)
Strikeforce
will be putting on its final show on the 12th of January, 2013, and
it will feature three title fights and the return of Daniel Cormier.
A
few days ago it was announced that Strikeforce was going to fold – as if anyone
would be really surprised – and that Ronda Rousey was officially the first UFC
women’s champion. It is unclear as of now how many fighters will be absorbed
into the promotion, but expect to see the likes of Gilbert Melendez, Pat Healy,
Josh Thomson, Luke Rockhold, Tyron Woodley and Miesha Tate.
For
its final show, Strikeforce will be putting on an epic card – Lightweight title
fight between Gilbert Melendez and Pat Healy, Welterweight title fight between
Nate Marquardt and Tarec Saffiedine, and Middleweight title fight between Luke
Rockhold and Lorenz Larkin.
Also,
Daniel Cormier will be returning and will be facing MMA veteran Dion Staring in
a heavyweight bout.
Zuffa,
parent company of the UFC, purchased Strikeforce in March of 2011, and ever
since then the Showtime promotion has been on a steady downhill roll. Public
speculation was that the UFC intended on absorbing its talent, like they did
with the WEC, however they kept the promotion running for a while and now it is
uncertain just how many fighters will be making the move over.
