Bellator Fighting Championship 79
This weekend could be the start of a new battle.
This weekend could see a new kid on the
block put real pressure on the number two MMA organizations in the world. As
Bellator prepare for battle with newcomer the World Series of Fighting.
We have already given you a look at the
WSoF card and told you our thoughts so here’s a quick look at the Bellator
card.
Bout 1:
Ed Carpenter (5-3-0-1) vs Josh Applet
(7-2-0)
Carpenter is on a two fight-losing streak
and frankly I’m not sure how he managed to get on this card.
Applet is on a three-fight win streak and
has knock out power.
Bout 2:
Jonny Carson (10-5-0) vs
Guillaume Delorenzi (9-1-0)
Carson is again not that hot of a prospect
with a patchy record.
Delorenzi
is on a tear and although it’s hard to judge these fights as all the
fighters have been fighting at diverse organisations he looks to be the hot
favorite, he has real knock-out power and Carson is going to need to take him
to the ground early if he is to escape with a W.
Bout 3:
Josh Pulsifer (17-7-0) vs Magomedrasul Khasbulaev (17-5-0)
Now we get into the meat of the card
Pulsifer is coming out of a shaky period when he lost three of his last four
fights but his record until then was solid and he is a very accomplished
fighter if it goes to ground the trouble is, so is……
Khasbulaev and he has already gained a win
in Bellator and his recent record is far better
Bout 4:
Vladirmir Starcenov (2-0-0) vs Vitaly
Minakov (9-0-0)
Starcenov has only had two pro bouts both
first round wins but really is that enough to justify a shot in the worlds
number two MMA organization?
Minakov is 9-0 and that is why this fight
is a bad match-up
Bout 5:
Christ Franck (3-3-0) vs Marus Aurelio (6-1-0)
Franck is a mere 3-3 again you have to
wonder how he is fighting in Bellator especially against…….
Aurelio who is on six fight win streak many
via punches
Bout 6:
Kevin Asplund (15-2-0) vs Alex Kudin (14-4-0)
Aspland lost on his Ballator debut via
Doctors stoppage his first loss since 2003 you can be sure he will want to
prove he is good enough against…..
Kudin a brutal knockout artist, look for a
real barnstorming bout
Bout 7:
Ryan Ford (18-4-0) vs Kyle Baker (12-6-0)
Ford is a solid performer has good stand-up
and ground skills.
Baker has not been so impressive, how you
can lose your last fight in a lesser organization and then get your first fight
in Bellator I will never understand.
Bout 8:
Douglas Lima (21-5-0) vs Jacob Ortiz
(13-3-0)
Lima is a proven Bellator veteran with his
last outing a decision loss to ben Askren
I think Ortiz will be a tough opponent but
not tough enough
Bout 9:
Mike Richman (13-1-0) vs Shahbulat Shamhalaev (10-1-0)
Richman is a top level fighter with two
first round knockouts in Bellator
Shambalaev also managed a first round knock
out in his last fight also in Bellatorr, so look out for some real fireworks
Main Event:
Thiago Santos (11-1-0-1) vs Richard Hale
(20-4-1)
Santos last two fights were both stopped
due to groin strikes, both against Eric Prindle.
Hale is a powerhouse and will cause any
fighter trouble.
Personally I think the Word Series of
Fighting card over all has a higher quality of fighter. Bellator could well
find that they are under a lot of pressure from the new kid on the block.
Let's not forget that the World Series of fighting are coming straight out of the blocks with a TV deal and a first show in las vegas which is rumoured to be a sell out.
