What Is Happening To MMA in Malaysia?

Malaysian Fighting Championship Affected By Controversy

Things were looking good for Malaysia MMA, Muayfit are running two events, Balls to Brawl and Malaysian Fighting Championship, We still have Ultimate Beatdown, F3 and possibly even Gods? Now a new name Legionnaire.

Yet on Saturday night in Kuala Lumpur at the new MFC venue it would appear some people set out to damage the name of MMA in Malaysia.

During one of the bouts my understanding is (I was not there) after a fighter was awarded a red card for  breaking the rules, a member of the crowd spat at the official. A disgusting and cowardly act. I hope if this person is attached to an MMA gym that they make him apologise for his actions. If they do not, I do not think they should be allowed to participate in future events.

I also understand that their was lots of needless shouting of religious slogans, abusive language and insults of officials.

And then we had the situation where somebody part way through a bout rung the officials bell causing the fight to be (wrongly) stopped.

None of these things reflect well on the sport of MMA in Malaysia.

The people behind the Malaysian Fighting Championship (Muayfit) put a lot of work into setting up this type of event and what happened is very sad. Luckily for Malaysian MMA it does not appear to have put Muayfit off and they are already organising the next event for November 24th. Let's hope the trouble makers stay away.
