The Yanks Are Coming ~ It’s Official, UFC on FUEL 6 in MACAU

The UFC are Coming To Macau

After years of delay and teasing, the UFC is finally going to China, the promotion announced on UFC Tonight. The exact date for the UFC on FUEL 6 event is November 10 at the Cotai Arena which seats 15,000 spectators. The arena is inside the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel, Macau, which is currently the biggest casino in the world.

UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta was obviously delighted to announce UFC’s first foray to the country with the largest population in the world.

“Breaking into a market with a population of over 1.3 billion is both a testament to the growth of our sport and a long-term challenge we are excited to undertake.

“This is just the first of many world-class fights we plan to hold over the coming years in China, one of the birthplaces of martial arts,” Fertitta said.

Mark Fischer, UFC Managing Director of Asia, said that having an event in China is a “major step” for the company.

“This event is a major step in the development of the UFC brand in this region of the world, and China in particular,” he said.

“We are delighted by this opportunity to build on the media growth and attention we have received and to finally bring a live event in prime time to the millions of fans in this area, and especially to those lucky enough to come and experience all the excitement of the UFC in person,” he added.

UFC President Dana White had promised that he would bring UFC to China in 2012 and he has kept his promise. Now it would be interesting to see if he can keep his other promise; a UFC in India.

It will also be interesting to see how Chinese promotions, particularly Legend FC, react to this news.

Also of course we wait with bated breath to see which fighters are chosen for the event, who would you like to see?
