Superfight League 3 New Dehli Results and Reports

Superfight League 3 New Dehli Results and Reports

Here We Go Again SFL 3 Superfight League

It could be entitled SFL 3 please let it be good!

Crowd was a past capacity 12,500 which makes it bigger than ONE FC 3 by some margin.

Bout 1:
Zelg “Benkei” Galesic (10-6) (London Shootfighters) Vs Doug “The Rhino” Marshall (14-5) (Kings MMA)

Galesic beat Marshall in just a few seconds as Marshall crumbled like some Bob Sapp alike. A bad match up and an easy payday for both fighters).

Bout 2.
Gurdarshan “Saint Lion” Mangat (2-0) (Mamba MMA / Tristar) Vs Liu “Steve” Si Cong (no record) (Fighters Unite)

The crowd is heavily into this fight as every time Mangat got Si Cong down there were big cheers.
Mangat earned a nice two point deduction for an illegal kick to the face when his opponent was down.
Now Mangat had to go for it.

This was a much better fight Si Cong may have stepped up to take the fight at short notice but he was not going to go quietly Mangat would have to take the fight from him.

Into the second round and Mangat half way through the round get a tap-out via rear naked choke. The Indians love a local (Canadian) fighter.

Bout 3.
Lakwinder “Lightning” Sekhon (3-0) Vs Vladimir “The Cafe” Byandov (1-0) (Gym Lions)

A good fight with two well matched fighters battling to and fro. Byandov did look to have a slight edge and spent more time on top when the fight was on the ground.
Into the second round and again the fight swung back and forth with both fighters having a chance but eventually Sekhon seemed to be overwhelming Byandov but he managed to last till the end of the round, or did he? No, well technically yes and then he claimed an injury and refused to get up. No warriors heart on display here.

Bout 4.
Baga Agaev (26-12) (Rusfighters Sport Club) Vs Trevor Prangley (23-9-1) (American Kickboxing Academy)

A very slow fight evenly matched but not very explosive. Prangley somehow picked up a cut above his left eye but was not in any real danger.

Into round two they were probably even.

Prangley bloodied but unbowed started to use his more powerful punching to get Agaevs attention but Agaev just get counter punching and he was still looking fresh.

Prangley was looking more tired but also much more powerful, either Agaev was biding his time or he was starting to back off.

Into round three I had it still fairly even.

One of these fighters had a chance to steal the fight with a big round but they really didn’t seem to do it until Prangley threw a powerful right hand and Agaev hit the deck boom! It’s all over.

Bout 5.
Kultar “The Black Mamba” Gill (10-8) (Mamba MMA) (Vs Quinton Arendse (1-1) (Versus Performance)
Hmmm, I know that quite a few Malaysian fighters were offered a chance against Gill, none of them were really in with much chance and all were smart enough to turn it down, it seemed that whoever Gill was going to face would be picked at short notice and Arendse stupidly picked up the mantle. I do wish fighters managers would think about their fighters rather than there wallets.

A complete mismatch, Ken Pavia should be ashamed of that one.

Bout 6.
Anup “Pitbull” Kumar (1-1) Vs Chatmongkhon “Noom” Simma (0-1) (Legacy Gym)

Smartly Kumar took the muay thai expert down as soon as he could and once down he did all he could to ensure that it did not get up. The ref (Mark Goodard) kept telling Kumar to get into action but really it was going nowhere. Kumar did not really seen willing to take a chance, then he got mount and proceeded to ground and pound but sadly straight to the back of Simmas head leading to the ref to deduct two points. On the restart Kumar again took it to the ground and this time he did win by ground and pound right at the end of the round.

Bout 7.
Lena “Hunter” Ovchynnikova (8-1) (Union Gym) Vs Joanne Calderwood (1-0) (Dinky Ninjas)

Lena had Calderwood in trouble early with a choke but Calderwood got out of it, she was soon on the bottom again with Lena on top Calderwood managed to slip a leg triangle in and Lena was in big trouble but she did not want to quit and although Calderwood kept it in tight Lena made it to the end of the round.

For round 2 Calderwood was again on top of Lena, despite here record Calderwood was definitely the most imaginative of the two fighters and again Calderwood got Lena in trouble in a rear naked choke, Lena managed to get out again Calderwood got it in and Lena just would not give and she ended up on top but then Calderwood transitioned into an armbar again not able to finish. They stood up in the clinch Yujo Shimada took a point from Lena for continually holding the cage.

Into round 3 Calderwood is definitely in control, Lena has to stop the fight to win. Lena managed to keep it standing and caught Calderwood with a strong right hand, Calderwood kept going for jabs and Lena kept coming over the top with solid punches. Calderwood took it to the ground and was soon enough on top of Lena. On the ground it was all Calderwood and Lena really did not have any answer. Calderwood really dominated this fight.

Once again the ladies put on the best fight so far.

Bout 8.
James “The Colossus” Thompson (17-14-1) (London Shootfighters)Vs Bobby “The Dominator” Lashley (7-1) (American Top Team)

The last two SFL’s have had pretty shitty main fights as the big boys failed to fight with heart ,Bob Tap Sapp started it by tapping the second he smelt a glove. Everybody must have been fighting this fight would be different. Lashley was dominating Thompson during the first round and Thompson was failing to impose his vast experience.

Thompson kneed Lashley in the balls and that really stopped him, Lashley did not look that willing to continue he really was milking it getting all the wind back that he could.

On the restart lashley looked the better and at the end of the round Lashley was battering Thompson who was saved by the bell.

Second round, both these fighters kept up the level and both landed some serious punches.

Round three and these two were still up for the fight, Lashley was surprising me with his cardio and just in case Thompson kneed him in the balls again to give him a rest.

Lashley like a footballer made the best of the time, either he has the worlds worst cup or the worlds most sensitive balls or both, he really did milk it.

Back to the fight Lashley was blasting at Thompson who was fighting back with some dirty boxing and looked to be taking control until Lashley blasted out with some solid punches.

Thompson won the fight via a Unanimous Decision. Personally I thought it could have gone either way.

A really enjoyable fight, very entertaining.

The real good news on the night was the theme song was used sparingly, the fights were with a few exceptions much better quality and the crowd was still in the stadium at the end of the show. After almost giving up on the SFL I think it could actually be still breathing. This was a very enjoyable show and ONE FC’s claims to be Asia’s biggest organization must be under question as a 12,500 crowd destroys ONE FC’s best 7000+ by some distance. The SFL may not be anything to shout about yet  but this show really could have been a major turning point.
