We love our local MMA but we also love us some UFC. On January 14, 2012, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will be holding their event at the HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Some of our URCC fighters took the time to dish out their predictions for the upcoming event’s top three main cards.
Angelito “The Saint” Manguray predicts…
Jose Aldo over Chad Mendes
I’ll go for Jose Aldo. His vicious strikes, especially his low kicks are relentless and he’s got good takedown defense. It won’t be an easy fight though, ibang klase ang mga take down ni Mendes eh, ginagawa niyang pang counter sa strikes ang take downs nya. I’m calling it Jose Aldo by decision.
Vitor Belfort KO’s Anthony Johnson
Johnson loves to rumble. Belfort can handle this kind of fighter easily. Timing and accuracy in strikes are the best weapon to beat Belfort. I don’t see that in Johnson. Belfort is a tough nut when it comes to the ground. Belfort for a KO.
Rousimar Palhares taps Maike Massenzio out
They fight the same kaya lang mas mabilis si Palhares. They both love take downs but Palhares’ take downs are quicker and stronger. Palhares’ strikes are also crispier. I’ll go for Palhares, ang galing maghanap ng ankle or leg submissions. Palhares by tapout.
The always candid Pete “The Professor” Brooks says this is how it’s going down…
Jose Aldo over Chad Mendes
Jose Aldo, one of the P4P best in the world with an easy 2nd round TKO victory over Chad Mendes. Aldo just has way too much reach and his takedown defense is too good.
Anthony “Rumble” Johnson decisions Vitor Belfort
Here is one of my upsets for the night. Rumble Johnson over Belfort. I really like Rumble up here at 185lbs. If he gets out of the 1st round, Rumble Johnson by decision.
In a fight I don’t really care about, I got Palhares over Massenzio.
Terry Etim over Edson Barboza
But a fight you didn’t ask me about, but I’m most excited to watch on this card is Terry Etim vs Edson Barboza. I got Etim to outlast Barboza with the decision win in what I predict will be the fight of the night baby!!!
THE URCC Middleweight Champ Froilan Sarenas calls it for…
I’m going with Jose Aldo, Vitor Belfort and Rousimar Palhares. Home court advantage!!!
New URCC fighter Will “The Kill” Chope’s thoughts on the bouts…
Chad Mendes TKO’s Jose Aldo
I have to go with Chad Mendes all the way, Jose Aldo got exposed in his last fight against Kenny Florian, showed everyone he is not invincible. Chad Mendes Wrestling and Athleticism is going to be too much for Aldo. I am thinking a 3rd Round TKO by Mendes. Going to be great to watch.
Vitor Belfort KO’s Anthony Johnson
I am one of the old school fan remember when he debuted when I was a little kid watch the UFC with my Dad. I Really want to see Vitor KO Johnson, I just hope Rumble’s size and strength is not too much for “The Phenom”.
Rousimar Palhares subs Mike Massenzio
The only way I see Mike Massenzio winning this fight is if Rousimar stops fighting and tries to tell the ref he is greasing and get TKO’d hahahaha. I doubt that will happen so I see Palhares getting a crazy submission win.
Lastly, TJ Tiu, the URCC’s first ever Hall of Famer has it in favor for…
Jose Aldo submits Chad Mendes
It’s very close as both fighters are well rounded and both have lots of experience in mma competition but I will go with Jose Aldo via submission
Vitor Belfort TKO’s Anthony Johnson
Another close match since both fighters have superior ground and striking skills. I’ll go with Vitor via strikes.
Rousimar Palhares TKO’s Mike Massenzio
I’ll go with Mike Massenzio via tko or ground and pound.
