ONE FC Will Nobody Ask The Real Questions?
ONE FC, Will Nobody Ask Real Questions?
OK you will have to go and check this article out to get the context of this rant!
Here’s the deal, I like Victor Cui and I am excited about the potential of ONE FC but I get really annoyed by all the bullshit and fawning that goes on all around this organisation from bloggers and worse from journalists (look us bloggers are frustrated journalists they should be better than us), there really is no yang to all the ying. It’s all big smiles and back slapping.
Please somebody ask the real questions. You cannot blame Victor Cui, he can only answer the questions put to him. Or ignore them and move on without getting challenged, which he does very smoothly.
Question two on the article says that ONE FC has a bit of a Pride FC feel about it. Really, In what way? The crazy walk ins? The massive crowds? The top quality international fighters? The ring? I mean really apart from being based in Asia and featuring people fighting where did this come from?
And, I know the haters will think I have a downer on ONE FC, but I don’t ONE FC is ONE FC! Pride is long gone and ONE FC can create its own story.
Question three: Asking Victor when the next event is. I mean really you can’t look that information up before the interview?
And Victors answer just talks about media coverage and never answers the question, which is not re-asked. Also, I am pretty sure that the media coverage while very good and exciting is exactly what any organisation of this size and ambition should be getting. And as for the media already crowning ONE FC the UFC of Asia, hmmm I feel pretty sure that ONE FC started saying that itself.
Question five asks, are you signing fighters for long term deals or one offs?
Victor answers with a statement that all the fighters are signed to long term partnerships and are globally exclusive.
I am not sure where to begin, but surely the reporter should have followed up with further questions.
What does that mean? does that mean all the fighters who appeared at Jakarta have a contract?
And really are you telling me that some of those fighters from the Undercard will get another fight on ‘Asias Most Prestigious blah blah blah’
Or does that mean that Bob Sapp who was already heading back to the changing room before the fight had hardly began will get more chances.
And, if he is on a globally exclusive contract how come he is off to SFL in India (A big mistake by those guys as well btw).
Surely this whole statement would ring alarm bells if it were true.
Surely the URCC and other partner organisations would not willingly hand their champions over to ONE FC if they were going to be on an exclusive ONE FC contract. OR, does that mean then can fight for the URCC still, but ONE FC hold the contracts?
There are just so many questions from this statement and the guy just moved on to the next question.
Question Seven: Talked about the great match ups at Battle of Heroes and I would agree that many of the fights were very good. But really no questions about the quality of the majority of the undercard fighters or the fact that Bob Sapp was on the main event and wasn’t that a mistake?
And I have certainly spoken to people who tell me they do not think they can get their fighters on ONE FC cards because they are not part of the ONE FC network, even though they have good quality fighters who appear on other organisations cards. I accept that politics plays a part in these things, but it should not be left unsaid.
At this point Jason Chambers is brought into the interview for a few questions. I won’t go into that part of the interview.
Question ten talks about the ESPN deal. Whilst I am very hopeful that this will be a superb partnership. I would have liked to hear some questions. For instance, WHEN do we get to watch the Jakarta event? Will it be months, weeks, days? What are the plans for the future.
Look another Asian MMA organisation DARE are planning a weekly TV show, are ONE FC making any plans for such a show or will we only see their events some weeks after they are done and all the results have been known for a long time.
Question eleven, Asks if there will be any Womens MMA in ONE FC? NO! You dick why do you think Victor introduced a female MMA fighter at his last press meeting? I mean really that’s the best question you have. We already know the answer is yes.
Question tweleve, asks will there be a DREAM/ONEFC joint card in the future? It has already been reported months ago that, that would happen in March. Shouldn’t the question be. You said there would be a joint Dream/ONEFC event in March but it has not been announced. Does the relationship Dream announced with Hawai’s ProElite change things.
Victor answers the original question with absolutely and says wait for another huge announcement very soon….
Question thirteen, says you (Victor Cui) have been called the Dana White of the East by many people. Really who and why?
Victor nicely avoids answering such a wet question and instead explains the massive growth in MMA and the expected continued growth.
The final question invites Victor to tell us what one thing they should look out for in 2012 from ONE FC.
Victor does not really answer the question instead saying his goal is to make MMA the biggest sport in Asia. Which is a nice lofty and exciting prospect. Then he goes on spoil it by adding that when 3.9 billion people in Asia tune in to watch ONE FC he will have made it. Way to go on a complete, absolute, impossibility. Why? because that’s every Man, Woman and Child in Asia and it can never happen millions of them do not even have access to TV’s or Internet.
And why just Asia? Pride was loved worldwide, my crappy little website has the USA as its second biggest readership, Why not aim for something more realistic, to be the second biggest global MMA organisation and a real competitor to the UFC.
I much prefer Victor Cui when he has his feet firmly planted on the ground and is driving ONE FC forward, but too many times he has to go through these dog and pony shows and nobody comes out looking good! Then I write something like this and everybody hates on me. Nobody wins!
