The ONE FC Bantamweight unification title fight will be a battle between the top pound-for-pound king Bibiano Fernandes versus the heavy-handed and lightning quick South Korean, Soo Chul Kim.
Bibiano Fernandes is ranked as one of the best Bantamweight fighters in the world. He is the former DREAM Featherweight Champion, DREAM Featherweight Grand Prix winner and current Interim ONE FC Bantamweight Champion. Fernandes has not lost a fight in over two years and he made his ONE FC debut in Manila last August when he defeated CFC Bantamweight Champion Gustavo Falciroli. Fernandes then followed that up with a first round submission win over DEEP Bantamweight Champion Yoshiro Maeda. At ONE FC: RISE TO POWER in May 2013, Fernandes captured the Interim Bantamweight World Championship title, which was up for grabs due to Soo Chul Kim being injured, by winning a unanimous decision over Koetsu Okazaki. At ONE FC: TOTAL DOMINATION he will be looking to cement his status as the best pound-for-pound fighter currently in Asia by taking home the unified ONE FC Bantamweight World Championship belt. He will have his toughest test yet when he battles Soo Chul Kim.

Reigning ONE FC Bantamweight World Champion Soo Chul Kim is only 21 years of age but he is already a veteran of 11 MMA fights. He brings an unusual combination of both youth and experience into the ONE FC cage. The Korean has consistently tested himself against the best fighters in the division and has already competed in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines. In his last ONE FC outing, Kim defeated Leandro Issa by TKO en route to winning the first ever ONE FC Bantamweight World Championship belt. Kim feels that the Bantamweight title is rightfully his and will look to cause a major upset by defeating Fernandes to prove that he is the undisputed Champion.

Both champions know that this fight will be the defining fight of their MMA career as they compete to be called the one and only ONE FC Bantamweight World Champion.

Also, the Lion City will be awaiting the debut of hometown hero Sherilyn Lim. Lim will be representing Singapore’s oldest mixed martial arts gym, Fight G. She has been part of Fight G since 2007, when she joined their Muay Thai program and has been training under the tutelage of Singaporean MMA pioneer Darren De Silva. Sherilyn has quickly established herself as the best female mixed martial artist in Singapore and fight fans have been eagerly expecting her debut on the largest stage in Asian MMA. She will be looking to do the Republic proud on Asia's largest stage when she competes in front of the Singapore fans on 18 October.

A Member Speaks - Juggernaut Fight Club

Life in Juggernaut Fight Club...

(Note: this was a post I found on Facebook yesterday and I asked permission of Juggernaut to repost it as I think it shows, how much a top quality gym can mean to people. I used to run a Leisure business in the UK with 1200+ members and I know how it feels to get mail like this, beyond the money etc at it's most basic. A good quality gym can change peoples lives in a positive way.
I have left out the authors name, however you could easily find it on facebook if you wanted to.)

Before I say anything, I would like to say, I have no gains in anyway in writing this, I am a normal guy, who stumbled into a MMA gym, and decided to settle down and make this place a home for myself... All in all, it is a letter of confession and love, not a statement of any sorts from the authorities of Juggernaut Fight Club.

So, you can know that there is no biasness in any statement in here.

Many people come to me and ask me whats the best MMA gym in Singapore, and so here is my 2 cents worth. Again, I am a nobody, so this is my little humble opinion.

There have been many people talking about MMA gyms in Singapore of late, the good, the bad, the ugly, the pretty, who produces best fighters etc etc... I shall not name any of those, but I come from a place where I REALLY enjoy myself, and I grow as a human being. Is not that the whole point? That we push ourselves, that we find to find a passion and fight in life, to learn to not give up, and for those like me, who aren't going to be professional fighters, to learn to keep our physical bodies in good shape and in good health to trudge in this path called life.

I came from another gym locally, and I left because I saw some ugly things that should not have happened, and I stepped into JFC. In JFC, I met the mean looking coach, known as the Juggernaut to many of you. Arvind is a man who does not speak much, but he is a man who looks after his boys.

I remembered in my first encounter with him. Remember, back then, I have even yet known him for a month. I had a nasty back injury, and I went by the gym to tell him I will probably miss training for a week or so, while in the middle of his boxing class, he came up to me and said to, 'Take a month off, make sure it's totally gone. You can train anytime, but your health and body is more important.' This, coming from a guy who would benefit more financially if I had signed up and paid my fees immediately...

JFC is also a place where there are no airs between coaches and students. While the training is extremely grueling, and we have the best coaches in the town, I don't have to spell that out, what really touches the hearts of people is what happens after class.

I am NOT an athletic person, NOT a talented grappler, and I started out on this journey FRIGGIN' LATE in my life, the other day I was texting Arvind, and he casually commented, 'Keep training, want you to compete for us.'

To many of you, it is just a text, to me, it means the whole world. Somebody actually thinks I can compete in grappling! Again, I AM A NOBODY, but a veteran coach in MMA, Boxing would actually put confidence in me? The other coaches sing the same tune, every class I go, there is always 'GOOOOD.... NICK, GOOOOOD JOB... PASS PASS PASS PASS! GOOOOOOD... TAP TAP TAP!!! SUBMIT GOOD JOB NICKK....'

*With Korean Accent.

The boxing coaches likewise, they train JiuJitsu, and I try to tap them because they make me do alot crunches in boxing training... But I am still trying...

My point being? The coaches don't really treat you like clients per say, you are a friend... and you are given faith in yourself. That makes you stand tall and have confidence when you go out to work, a more confident businessman, a more confident brother, a more confident father, whoever you may be.

JFC has alot of safety measures in the gym, you should see how they pad up the wrestling area for grapplers, sometimes I feel like a baby in a cot. But above all, it is a safe haven where people come to train and find a place where coaches take them under their wings, and make them feel like a part of their own.

We sit in coffeeshops and laugh till late at night, and try to get stupid taxis in peak hours. We celebrate birthdays, and we get farted on while grappling. We watch Family Guy TV Series at the reception counter, and we talk about the weirdest things late into the night in FB. This is not a gym, this is a home.

At home, I find friends. For all you fan boys out there, I grapple with Syafiq the Slasher alot. So when he gets famous he will remember me. Beyond his kick ass MMA side, he's one hell of a beast to roll with, but behind that, he is a down to earth, neighbourhood kid, which I could have possibly sat beside in my Secondary School.

JFC is a crazy place to be in, somewhat like a family with a big old daddy and crazy overgrown kids...

But...

Oh, have I mentioned that we recently had a 5-0 win in a MMA contest in Malaysia? And have I mentioned we produce young local talents? Yes, born and bred Singaporeans who beat others so hard, you would be impressed.

So, above the fuzziness and the friendship carebear sharity elephant shit I talked about, the fight team simple beats everyone's ass because we are quality.

So, this is JFC for me in the past 1 year.
A crazy place, where I am safe, where I feel at home, and where I have grown so much technically in my grappling skills.

So, if you're looking for the BEST MMA gym? I can't tell you which, BUT if you're looking for somewhere where you WILL be taken care of, as a FRIEND, not just a client, and a place where people put belief in you, looking for a place where people then welcome to Juggernaut Fight Club, my home in Boat Quay. :)

The Coffee Boy Returns - Silva, Sonnen and Hendo

Quickthoughts: …GOAT’s & Sh*t Talking

There is almost no doubt anymore that Anderson Silva is an all-time great:

He’s undefeated in the UFC with the longest win-streak, most title defenses (10), and has beaten everyone the UFC has thrown at him with ease (save one or two fights). Before the UFC, he was the Cage Rage Middleweight Champion, and Shooto Middleweight Champion.

He was Sports Illustrated’s Fighter of the Year (2008), World MMA Award’s Fighter of the Year (2008), among a bunch of other accolades.

He’s widely considered the best striker in MMA today – according to FightMetric, he lands 3.17 significant strikes per minute, has a 67% significant striking accuracy (making him the most accurate in the UFC), and absorbs only 1.41 significant strikes per minute, successfully defending against 63% of all significant strikes against him, and he has knocked down 17 opponents (the most in the UFC).

He has beaten MMA legends Rich Franklin (x2), Dan Henderson, Forrest Griffin, Vitor Belfort, and had one of the greatest feuds against MMA’s biggest trash talker Chael Sonnen, defeating him twice.

There is little left for Anderson Silva to prove. Sure, a fight with Georges St. Pierre would be a money-maker, and he would likely be the favorite to win that fight. A fight with Jon Jones would almost certainly sell out any stadium in North America. And he could stick around and defend his belt against up-and-comers (Chris Weidman, anyone?).

Whatever Silva decides to do at this point in his career, no one can doubt that he is one of, if not the greatest, mixed martial artist of all time. Few have been honored with such a title, the most recent being Fedor Emelianenko before dropping three fights in a row.

Maybe we’ll see a big fight here and there from Anderson Silva, maybe he’ll fight for another five years, maybe he’ll retire tomorrow. Whatever it is, Anderson Silva is THE king of MMA, and one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time.
--------

It was recently announced that Jon Jones will be a coach on a season of The Ultimate Fighter next year, and his opponent is none other than Chael Sonnen.

Sonnen was scheduled to face Forrest Griffin later this year in a rematch, but it appears that fight is now off, and he’ll be on the sidelines until TUF, where he’ll face Jones for the title after the show is over.

Dan Henderson was originally supposed to face Jones for the title after beating “Shogun” Rua in an epic five-round fight, but had to pull out due to an injury. He didn’t seem too pleased to hear about Chael Sonnen getting the shot before him, and had this to say to UFC president Dana White:

No one can really blame Henderson for being upset. After all, he was promised a title shot, and Sonnen is coming off a loss to Anderson Silva after being TKO’d in the second round. Sonnen has managed to work his way up to “better things” by being loud and brash, and honestly it’s no real surprise that the UFC wants to cash in on a fight that would definitely sell between him and Jon Jones.

Dan Henderson is currently in Singapore training. Expect to see the UFC set up a title-eliminator match between Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida, who is coming off an impressive knockout victory over Ryan Bader.
