Malaysian Fighting Championship 3 – The Full Event

Malaysian Fighting Championship 3 – The Full Event

On Saturday 10th December 2011 - Muayfit held the Malaysian Fighting Championship 3 event at Overtime, Rivercity, Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur.

This was a truly international event with fighters from Malaysia, Singapore, Belguim, Kyrgyztan, Brazil, Pakistan, Japan, England and Turkmenistan

There were 20 fights and somewhere between 550 and 650 people I would estimate in a fast moving and enjoyable nights fighting.

I am going to attempt to give you an idea of what happened on the night, with words and videos where they exist.

The First Fight was between Garie Tang (Impact MMA Singapore) and Khalid '2 Quick' -

Round One:

The fight started with a flurry of punches from both fighters before Tang started placing some very good knees. It then went back to some good punches from 2 Quick before again Tang took over with more solid punches and knees, the knees and leg kicks from Tang were making a big difference. The difference between the two fighters was that 2 Quick had good punches but no other game and Tang could punch, kick and use his knees well.

The round ended with wild punches being thrown from both sides, at the end of round one 2 Quick looked very tired.

Round Two:

Started with a fresh looking Tang and a tired looking 2 Quick, the fighters quickly went to ground in this round at that stage the lights failed but the fight continued and the lights were soon restored. Tang soon got a full mount and then layed some ground and pound before moving seamlessly into a rear naked choke and the fight was over. Tang a worthy winner.

The Second Fight: between Muhammad Taufiq 'Landak' Hashim (Malacca Sports Club) Vs the Mysteriously named Overkill (Ultimate MMA Academy Johor)

Round One:

It took seconds to realise that Overkill was far and away the better fighter, he had taken the fight at short notice but looked fit and ready.

He also realised that he was the superior fighter and without further ado picked up his opponent and slammed him to the ground they soon returned to their feet but Overkill was in control and after a bit of stand up clinching Overkill pushed Landak away and gave a strong body kick then he again threw his opponent on the floor, Overkill placed a few punches while playing to the crowd with some show boating, he let Landak stand up but soon he had layed a few kicks on him before slamming him to the floor again and mounting him and the Ref quickly stopped the fight to save Landak from a certain beating, good call.

Third Fight: Garrick (Impact MMA Singapore) Vs Mohd Suhairy 'Merah' (Malacca Sports Club)

Round One:

Garrick moves straight into an attempted standing rear naked choke but did not have the hooks in and then Garrick got Merah to the ground, Garrick gaining mount and after a bit of ground work and a few failed choke attempts and although Garrick was unmounted a few times he eventually got the rear naked choke he had been working for and it was all over.

Fourth Fight: Royston Wee (Impact MMA, Singapore)  Vs Syed Emen Izmer (Jengking Warrior)

Round 1:

Ismer came out quickly with three kicks to the body before attempting a standing guillotine, but Wee takes him to the floor and get's him into an attempted crucifix position, Izmer is controlling his head movement and Wee tries gain side control, Wee starts to knee Izmer to the body and succeeds a few times before Izmer scrambles free and to his feet.

Wee, again goes for a takedown sweeping the leg but Izmer is still standing, Wee tries again and Izmar is down with Wee on top of him in half guard, Izmer tries to secure a guillotine but is not in the right position and Wee takes the mount, initially he is low but soon moves to full mount, Izmer scrambles and in doing so Wee slips on a rear naked choke and Impact MMA is 3 and so far for the night, Like a raiding party from Singapore come to steal all the gold!

Fight 5: Loh Kain Kai aka: Bruce Loh (Impact MMA, Singapore) Vs Wan Ahmad 'Arab' Nazharul (Malacca Sports Club)

Round 1:

Loh comes out early and takes Arabs back while still standing and then takes a jumping rear naked choke from the side and just like that it's over Loh the winner and Impact MMA are 4-0

The atmosphere is electric, everybody seems to be enjoying a fast night of fighting sure some of the fights are finishing very early but at this level you can not do much matchmaking beyond what somebody tells you about there experience and of course the same weight class.

Fight 6:  Mohammad Irfan 'A-We' (Malacca Sports Club) Vs Gavin 'Ryu' (Street Fight Wing Chun)

Round 1:

Round 2:

Fight 7: Alexander 'Leke' Machado (Impact MMA Singapore) Brazil  Vs Mohammad Asri (Malacca Sports Club)

Round 1:

Sadly this fight was over very fast, Leke is a practiced MMA fighter and Asri comes from the Malacca Sports Club who I understand do not actually even have a proper MMA gym, so much Kudos to them for being prepared to see how they stack up against other fighters. Sadly they need a lot more experience and practice but it's good to see such a fine turn out from Malacca, let's hope they keep at it and don't lose heart.

Leke swept Asri and punched him a few times Asri tried to stand caught an uppercut to the jaw and it was good night from him.

We will see Leke again later in the evening.

Fight 8: Eezuan Akbar (Street Fight Wing Chun) Vs Adi Farhan

Round 1:

Both fighters exchange throwing punches while in a clinch, Akbar looks rocked, but Farhan gives up his back, they still exchange throwing wild punches, not much technique on display at this stage. Knees to the leg of Akbar from Farhan. Farham tries to pull Akbars legs away in a clinch against the cage, leaning his weight on Akbar trying to secure those legs to pull him down. Akbar defends well but Farhan tried to get in a side headlock takedown, Akbar falls to his knees and tries to get Farhans leg, Farhan is punching into Akbars body, Akbar get's Farhan in a front headlock and is trying to choke him, both fighters continue to punch to the body and Farhan is out of the headlock. Farhan has the underhooks and is trying to choke Akbar but Akbar escapes and Farhan loses his mouthguard and Akbar lays some good punches into Farhans face, the fighters get some rest while is mouthguard is cleaned, the ref tells him not to lose it again.

They exchange punches again, Akbar looks to be on top but a big right hand from Farhan puts him down and they grapple again, Akbar is taking more punches to the face while he grabs Farhans leg and is trying to take his legs, he drives Farhan into the cage but is taking shots to the body, he manages to pull the legs out and is on top position on the ground in half guard, Farhan still punching to the body, Farhan tries to secure a choke hold as the bell rings.

Round 2:

Both fighters look tired at the start of this round but Akbar looks to have received the most damage. Akbar tries to take Farhans leg but has his head between Farhans thighs and is taking punches to the body. Akbar does not appear to have the strength necessary to pull Farhans legs away, eventually, Farhan just pulls away and punches Akbar on the way out.

The round continues like this with Akbar trying and failing to bring Farhan to the ground, he just could not get Farhans legs out and did not have the strength to move him. Farhan took advantage of this and inflicted more damage to Akbars body.

Result: Farhan retired on his seat before round three.

This was a strange retirement from where I sat it appeared that Farhan was both ahead on points and had inflicted more damage. Fighters need a strong heart and stronger will to win.

Fight 9:  Kenny Yap (Muayfit) vs Zack Gila

Round 1:

Side kick from Gila and then a high front kick that does not make full contact, then two big hooks and then he attempts a jumping Guillotine, Yap slams him but still the guillotine is in,  Yap manages to get his head out and is guard, he has Gila stacked up against the cage, he is trying to control Yap's hands and punches, he tries an upkick, eventually getting back up but getting a punch to the head on the way up.

Jumping front kick from Gila, they both attempt further kicks, Yap goes down but is up immediately and clinches, Gila again goes for the guillotine and then gets a triangle lock on Yaps legs controlling him further. Gila looks to have the hold in tight but Yap escapes and is punching at Gila, most are being blocked but some are getting through, Yap is in half guard and is laying punches on Gila, the bell rings for the end of the round.

A fairly even round with both fighters taking damage and both having periods of control.

Round 2:

Low kick from Gila to Yaps thigh, Yap fakes a punch and goes for a take down, he get's hit on the head, this time he carries on and takes a single leg and pushes Gila up against the cage, Gila tries a side choke but ,Yap completes a good takedown on Gila, Yap is on top and in guard and tries again to stack Gila, Yap tries to land punches not much getting through, Gila tries to throw his legs up to catch Yap but Yap is aware and still on top and landing good stikes eventually Gila taps.

A very good, very even match up.

Fight 1o: Anis 'the Shark' Syakir (Millatray Gym) vs Allamurad 'Pretty Boy' (Muay Fit) Turkmenistan

Round 1:

Fight 11:  Zeus Xian (Ultimate MMA Academy) Vs Mohd Jebir Shahir (Malacca Sports Club)

Round 1:

This was over so quickly Zeus came straight through landed three or four hooks and Shahir unable to stop the onslaught covered up and it was stopped.

Fight 12:   Shahrulnizam 'Mek Yah' Firdaus (Malacca Sports Club) vs  Josh Qiew  (Penang Fight Club)

Round 1:

Josh Qiew towers over Mek Yah height wise, So Qiew has a major reach advantage, Mek Yah comes out swinging some hard shots but Qiew grabs him and grapples him against the cage throwing knees and is trying to trip Mek Yah, Mek yah is trying to defend when Qiew slips on a rear naked choke but it's not fully in and Mek Yah turns back into it and Mek yah is in guard and starts to land some punches, Qiew tries to use his legs to attack but Mik Yah replies with big punches, not many but the ones that get through are hard.

Qiew is trying a reverse head arm choke but is unable to do anything with it, Mek Yah again lands big punches, Qiew manages a very good roll and takes top position and lands punches, powerful punches, Mek Yah gives up his back and the rear naked choke is in and it's all over.

A very good fight.

Fight 13: Mohd 'E-Joy' Fozi (Malacca Sports Club) vs Ali Hyder (Street Fight Wing Chun) Pakistan

Round 1:

They both try to throw some strikes and then Hyder goes straight for a head lock and E-Joy defends well but then he takes some knees to the body, Hyder  has a choke on but is also trying to take it to the ground and sink in a guillotine, the choke is tight and E-Joy looks to be in pain but is holding on and  eventually he slide out of the hold and is in guard bit Hyder soon reverses him and takes mount and starts ground and pounding, E-Joy does not know how to defend it and soon gives up his back and he continues to take strikes. That's it, all over TKO.

Fight 14: MK Chan (Street Fight Wing Chun) (85kg) vs Alexander 'Leke' Machado (Impact MMA Singapore) Brazil (68kg)

 Superfight

Round 1:

This fight was sadly a mismatch but not how you would expect:

A fight between a bigger heavier fighter who seemed to believe his wing chun stance would protect him from all evil against a much smaller fighter who did not know he was supposed to fear a wing chun stance, the end result Leke kicked Chans ass and it looked like Chan had to go home with a badly damaged arm as well.

MMA is about much more than one style of fighting forget that and you too will soon find yourself in a ring with somebody who can dismantle you with ease.

Even the ref treated his wingchun stance with disdain.

Wingchun fighters please if you enter an MMA cage stop it, it just looks silly outside of an Wing Chun vs Wing Chun fight.

Fight 15: Raymond Tan (Penang Fight Club) Vs Terry 'Medusa' Keong (Ultimate MMA Academy)

Round 1:

This looked to be an even match up with both fighters very similar in build and height.

Medusa looked to have it on the stand up but once Tan took him to the ground he mounted him easily and and then mounted easily and proceeded to ground and pound until the ref called a halt.

Fight 16: Taktak Arai (Penang Fight Club) vs Lum U Jin (Leverage Combat Academy)

Round 1:

Arai starts with a leg kick, they continue to circle and then Jin kicks back and then Jin goes in with some over hand punches but Arai drops below and takes him down. He takes his back and in seconds has an arm bar and Jin taps.

Fight 17: Samir Mrabet (Muayfit and Malicious BJJ) Belguim Vs Hnif 'Chainsaw' Salleh (Malacca Sports Club)

Round 1:

Punches and kicks are exchanged,  Mrabet takes Chainsaw down, Chainsaw tries for a choke while Mrabet moves into side control and pops his head out of the choke attempt, he knees Chainsaw in the body and moves into full mount and starts landing strikes and it's stopped. The crowd or the fighters are not happy, after a short period the ref - decides he had acted to quickly and they restart in the same position. It does not help a few punches later Mrabet slides in an armbar and it is finally all over.

Fair play to the ref for apologising to the crowd and fighters for the to early stoppage but as we saw it actually did not last more than a few seconds longer when they reset.

Fight 18: Handsome Hazrul  (Muayfit) vs Chen Chi Wing

Round 1:

Straight out two heavy kicks by Hazrul and he sweeps his opponent and  hammers Wing with a barrage of heavy punches. Wing tries to get up and goes for the legs, Hazrul tries for a guillotine but it's not in tight, Wing slips out and postures up and starts to punch, but they are not getting through, he is in half guard, Hazrul tries to get up but Wing keeps him down in half guard and then Wing mounts him fully and strikes Hazrul and clinches a victory.

Fight 19: Shamma Chandran (Leverage Combat Academy) vs Chew 'Dimple Boy' Lih Ren (Allied Sports)

There was quite a bit of controversy about the outcome of this fight as one result was given after the fight - Win to Shamma Chandran and some 36 hours later it was changed to a No Contest due to a knee to the head. I am not getting involved in the argument, the video does not show it clearly and at ringside I thought that it was a legal kick as Dimple Boy went in for a take down and caught Chandrans shin to the head. But it all happens so fast who can say for sure, we do not have slow motion.

I am sure the fighters can agree a rematch, if they really want to find a winner.
