MMA NEWS Asia

Well hello and welcome to MMA News Asia website and podcast.
Both will be bringing news and views on the MMA scene in Asia.
What’s the point? I hear you cry, Well in a very short time MMA in Asia has been shaken up with the arrival of  ONE FC an MMA organisation out of Singapore and headed up by the charismatic and visionary Victor Cui.
Although they have only run one event so far which was back in September 2011 at the Singapore Indoor Arena, things have been moving fast and ONE FC has quickly set up a network of partnerships with other fighting organisations Asia and Australia.
They have announced at least 35 new events next year, a staggering number and that shows the ambition that Victor Cui brings to MMA in Asia.
It should be a fun ride and I for one want to ride it, to see how far it can go.
Let’s hope it’s not a case of all the eggs in one basket.
MMA, is of course one of the fastest growing sports in the world, most people will at least have heard of The UFC, even if watching it in your own country may involve you visiting all sorts of strange websites!
It is the biggest organisation by far in MMA and while it is unlikely that ONE FC can deliver it any sort of damaging blow due to it’s massive established  fan base and access to the biggest fighters in the sport. What it can do is be a credible second place with a massive potential fan base in what is after all the home of many martial arts, The Asian Pacific Area.
And more importantly it will keep the UFC ‘honest’ any slacking and ONE FC will be hot on it’s heels hoping to pick up the pieces.
Of course there are other major fighting organisations out there, but in reality the sport is very Americacentric at the top end, the UFC itself, Bellator and Strikeforce (which may or may not survive rumours abound since it was taken over by the UFC’s parent company Zuffa) are the big three in the US, but there are plenty of others.
The biggest thing that ONE FC has going for it, is the fact that the Asian MMA scene was until it’s arrival very fractured. They will be the glue that can create something big and lasting.
So there should be lots of news and views to pass on to you.
However anybody that knows me will also know that I am not going to just write glowing praise, I am  going to say it as I see it.
I will write about any and all MMA organisations and Gyms in Asia regardless of how big or small they are, the only way to make sure MMA in Asia continues to expand is to support everybodies attempts to make it happen.
I would like to interview Asian MMA figures, whether they are running events, marketing events, fighting, training, whatever, if it’s interesting we will write or talk about it. And, publicise your events, your fighters and anything that will help Asian MMA expand.
You can contact us at mmanews@asia.com
If you would like to help us out or do some interviews for us please let us know. Also if you are in the scene in Asia we would love to interview you, you can publicise any upcoming event, talk about the state of Asian MMA or anything else MMA related that interests you.
